I want to become a nail technician. I live in southern california. I am 17 1/2 years old and I am currently still in high school. I am thinking about getting my GED and then go to community college to get my nail technician license. I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do before I start to go to school for my license or if someone can give me a little more insight about becoming a nail technician, pros and cons.How can I become a Nail Technician?
I am a nail tech I am a trained and LICENSED PROFESSIONALS and I make way more than $10 an hour. I work 3 days a week and I make no less than $27 and hour and that doesn't include retail sales. Pt time job, beyond full time pay.
Many Nail tech's make over $1000 a week.
Do not let anyone tell you, that you cannot support a family or pay your bills with this profession.
It is a honorable profession to make people feel and look their best, The hours are flexible and you will have a great time.
Pros: You can make a GREAT living.
You can work around a family
you will be in the fashion industry and working at the table isn't the only thing you can do. You can work for magazines and trade shows, the sky is the limit.
You will make great relationships to last a life time.
Cons. you have to be patient while you build your clientele.
Working with a lot of other women can get irritating.

To begin you need to be in high school or a graduate ( or GED) then all you do is check out the local schools, find one you like and sign up. They will tell you if you need anything. Find a good beauty college to attend.
Don't expect to learn everything you need to know there. You will have to take classes through distributors and manufacturers to really get good information and techniques.
I love doing nails! Some key things to building a good clientele is: do good nails, be on time, be reliable, love working with the public and keep learning.
You can make good money doing nails but you have to do your time. Don't expect the clients to come running into the salon for you. Be there and take the walk-ins. Market yourself around the neighborhood and with the clients in the salon. Sometimes you will have to give away free services to get them in the door.
It's a great job for a girl your age, and a little older, but it's not a good job in the long run. You won't be able to live on your own or raise a family on that salary. Go to college for something that will make you money. Why spend tuition money just to end up making 10.00 an hour?

Working as a nail technician can be physically demanding. Nail technicians have a high level of public contact, and so need to be well-presented.
