Trying to become a mobile nail technician?

Hi folks, Im trying to become a mobile nail technician. What do i need to do to do this? I qualified in UV Gel Nail Extensions in February and now want to do it as a side line to my fulltime job. Do i need to register as a business? Do i need to contact the Inland Revenue? Im stuck!!! Any help would be greatfully appreciatedTrying to become a mobile nail technician?
No you don't need to register, you just work as a self employed person.

When you fill in your annual tax return is the time you tell the Inland RevenueTrying to become a mobile nail technician?
If your setting up like a RV type thing all you Pretty Much, need is to get a mobile license from your state board.....Or if your just going to house to house, All you just need is a regular license...But you might want to check with your state board

Does anyone know of a good mobile nail technician in the Ilford area?

I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.

Can I do outcalls legally as a Nail Technician?

I'm a Nail Tech, wondering if I need any seperate license to do outcalls. How do I handle my taxes.. 1099? Also, what kind of insurance is good to have for liability?? Can I do outcalls legally as a Nail Technician?
You will need a business license. Contact the city where you live. Also need a state sales tax license.

Contact your insurance agent re: liability insurance. Should be able to add to existing coverage for not a lot of $.

A 1099 is something you receive from the person paying you. Your clients would not do this.

You would report your income on a Schedule C, self-employment income and pay self-employment tax (equivalent of social security) on form SE.

Good luck with the venture

How much does a nail technician earn..?

on average? I want to do an acrylic nail course, at 1st I would do it in my spare time but Im thinking eventually of giving up the job im in now to do it full time. But i have no idea of how much I could possibly earn.

I know you can rent chairs etc so it depends how much you charge and where you do it, but i just want a rough idea please.

thanks! How much does a nail technician earn..?
    Hi there

To be honest, it really depends on a few things.

    A) How good you are

    B) How quickly you can perform a great service

    C) What you are charging

    D) How available you are

You do need to factor in proper education, chair/desk rental (unless you work from home), advertising, marketing and the cost of the products you will be using, oh, did I mention more proper training?

It IS possible to live well in this profession though. But keep in mind that it does require a lot of commitment (i.e., lots of hours) and it will take a while to build your skills and ANOTHER while to build your clientele.

Sorry to be really vague, but it's a bit like asking how long a piece of string is.How much does a nail technician earn..?
It all depends on what you're doing for the customer . Pedicure , Manicure ecetera. They all have different prices. lots of people spend alot on my nails. also feet. some people that go to like senior centers and charges 30-35 per person for pedicures. She is there for about 10 hrs. With about 20 customers. you do the math

Im a qualified nail technician using gel system but having problems the gel lifts off every client?

i have had the gel changed to a new 1 by the company i trained with, i believe i am thoroughly go through the procedure . but the gel lifts off all in 1, any ideas what the problem could be.?Im a qualified nail technician using gel system but having problems the gel lifts off every client?
Have you checked out the forums at www.nailsmag.com ? You may get more feedback there since this section is mostly teenagers rating each other's looks.Im a qualified nail technician using gel system but having problems the gel lifts off every client?
That is incorrect. The most common cause of lifting is improper prep of the natural nail. Yes, it is true that when either acrylic, or gel products come into contact with skin, it can cause lifting. But, it is not the most common cause of lifting. What product line are you using? Just curious because I am not aware of any nail products companies that have changed their UV gel products except for one, CND. And that involved mostly 're-branding' of their existing products, but not much else.

Anyway, be absolutely certain to properly, and thoroughly prep the natural nails before application.
I too am a qualified nail technician and I've only ever seen this problem with gel being too cold. Before you use, place it under an active heat lamp to warm it up. You shouldn't hav a problem then unless the gel is too old or has been incorrectly stored for a long period of time.
The most common problem for liftings is that you are applying the gel too far over the sides. You must be really careful with this. Other than that I wouldn't know a reason why this happens, some gels are better than others.

In your school you might have a career day where employers come to recruit. If not make a resume and ';pound the streets'; get out there and stop by nail places, salons, etc. Talk to the owner or manager. It shows iniative, good luck!

You can make quite a bit as a mobile technician. I work in a nail bar at the moment and we charge 拢35 for a full set of acrylics.

If you build up a good reputation you wont even need to advertise as customers always recommend you to their friends.

It does cost a bit to train but your kit is included in the price and it means you can start getting customers straight away.

Correspondence nail technician course? Granton Institute or Academy of Nail Design?

    Hi guys,

I'm located in Ontario (Canada) and am really interested in becoming a nail technician. Unfortunately, I can only do a correspondence course at the moment due to personal reasons. I'm leaning towards The Academy of Nail Design or the Granton Institute. Does anyone have any experience with these schools? Is the course enough for you to go out and be a mobile technician? How were the kits that your received? I am willing to practice diligently before starting my business.

In the UK before you start training you need to have the manicure and pedicure unit of S/NVQ 2 Beauty Therapy. You can just do that unit if your not interested in the rest of that qualification. Most community colleges do nail technician courses in the evening and some beauty schools and salon supply stores do condensed courses over a peroid of a few days but this usually costs more.

My mom is a nail tech and I help her at her shop a lot, so I know what people like and stuff. You should look for people who can speak the language in the area well, because if they have an accent or can't speak the language, dealing with the customers are very hard. You should also look for people who have had at least 1 or 2 years of experience because although they may know the steps to do nails, they may not be able to satisfy the customers. Ask them if they know how to do more complex things like doing a full set, pink and white, or glitter tips. All these ';activities'; are very popular and require talent and experience. For the posting of the position, you can ask to put a couple of flyers in a nail supply shop or near that area because manicurists will need to practice often and they will go to the nail supply store to buy their equipment. What to look for when hiring a GOOD Nail Technician?

Is a nail technician a good career move for me?

I'm 35, married, with 2 kids (12 and almost 2). I've worked in corporate america for almost 10 yrs. Now I'm sick of it and I want to spend more time with my family. I want to become a nail technician, and build it into a business so I can quit my job. My husband and I both work and make decent money. I want to start now so when my baby is ready for school I can work for myself. Am I crazy to think that doing nails is a good idea??Is a nail technician a good career move for me?
I was a nail tech for 10 years, so speaking from experience it is a great job once you build up a clientele. But remember it takes a while to get a steady clientele. After I got my license I did a lot of sitting around and I was working on commission. That is the best way to start until you get a good steady clientel. Once you establish that you can booth rent and then you will be able to set your own schedule. But keep in mind that booth renting can cost you anywhere from 75- 150 a week depending on where you live and you have to buy all of your own products which can be expensive. I would say its a hit or miss type of job. Some people do well at it if they are good others don't. I had a great clientele and made about 30,000 a year working part-time. The only reason I quit and gave up my clientel is because I went through a divorce and needed to have a steady pay along with benefits. Good Luck to you and I hope this helps! Is a nail technician a good career move for me?
I have worked as a nail tech in a day spa and it was great. It is not stressful, it takes about 3 months of training, you can usually create your own hours, and you get to talk to women all day while providing them with some relax time. Not to mention it is rewarding making others feel good about themselves. I think it is a good idea and the flexibility is great. You can make decent money but I am sure it will not compare to corporate America. One thing to think about is the busiest days of a salon is in the evening and on the weekends and that is where you will make your money. Good luck!
no it is not crazy... but I would advise that if you are planning to do this be passionate about the job you plan to do... if you have doubts then you aren't going down the right path...

Creative nails in my opinion have the best reputation and are the most well known, i did my creative nails course nearly 2 years ago and it cost me near on 拢900 u could do it thru college but it's a long process, the course i did was 4 days practical, a few days to revise and then an exam so in total it lasted about 2 weeks and is not as easy as it looks when u watch someone else do it, 2 years on and i'm still learning new ideas and picking up tips. It is quite hard to set yourself up as nail technician as to earn money u need clients on a regular basis, i started out charging 拢15.00 for a full set and did some leaflet dropping and to be honest i got hardly any clients from that.. it's easier if u have lots of family and friends who are gonna want they're nails done and will spread the word.. when u've had practice and feel confident that you are good at a full set u can charge anything from 拢30.00 upwards, after a year u can do yr masters and then u can charge anywhere from 拢45.00

sorry i waffled but hope this helps

Explain why an understanding of anatomy will help you become a better nail technician?

you need to know anatomoy because you are working with the body. In a pedicure or manicure you can massage the clients arms, hands, feet, and legs. However, if you know how the muscles work, you can give a better massage, that will benefit the client, instead of massaging the wrong way and hurting the client by stretching muscles the wrong way. Also, if your client has some type of disease or infection, you must know so you can protect yourself and them. If a client has diebetes...you can't cut cuticles or smooth out their feet because of the lack of blood to the feet, if you make the client bleed, he/she cannot fight infection as well as us. If clients have any type of infection, fungi, disorder, or has had surgery you have to know if you can work on them or not. So being a nail tech. isn't easy...you have to know things like anatomy, chemistry and about all hand and foot diseasesExplain why an understanding of anatomy will help you become a better nail technician?
I have no idea, maybe it's because certain deficiencies and diseases can affect the quality of ones nails? Such as lack of iron ... I don't know!Explain why an understanding of anatomy will help you become a better nail technician?
    ummmmmm, I don't know
I had the same odd thinking when I was forced to learn about x=2, y=4 what is the total of z?? I now have enjoyed a fruitful career in retail warehousing and have never been asked what z stands for!!! Good luck with the nail thing.
you're painting nails!!! why would you need anatomy???
I can't see that the two are connected!
Messing with someones nails is quite an dangerous thing if you do it wrong. If you buff or file someones nails in the wrong way, you can damage their nails which take a long time to heal. Nails take months to grow.

Lots of nerves are under the nail bed , so we have to learn how damage can be avoided/ dealt with. To be a nail technician, you also have to do pedicures, and to do this it involves massaging people's feet and legs, you have to learn about the muscles in the leg, and all the layers of skin( there are 5 in total) and also, what problems you can have with your feet which would stop you from doing a pedicure. Basically, our nails and feet are connected to hundreds of nerves so we have to learn about all this to do a correct job.
Because colleges are trying to find reasons to justify keeping so many teachers on staff. Also most employers want rediculously overqualified staff. I'm currently working as a nursing assistant and I had to learn anatomy and physiology and although I work in health care I don't even most of it.

Each state has a licensing board. Look in the state government section for the telephone number. Call and ask that they send you the application materials. How do you go about being a nail technician, assuming you have been working in a salon for a number of years, and worked your way up from being a receptionist to nail technician, and then office manager... how would you then go about teaching the subject in a college or university? What qualifications would you need, any help is appreciated! Thanks : )How to be a Nail technician/manicure teacher?
When I was in Cosmetology school here in Texas there was a lady that was taking an instructors class at the same time I was there. She basically was like a student teacher. She helped the main instructor do everything, and clocked in and got college hours just like the rest of us there. The school I went to certified you in hair and nails. The lady that was going to school to be the instructor had already gotten her Cosmetology license years before. So I think that you have to be licensed thru your state for so many years, and have so many working years of experience. Then you can go to the instructor's school and get certified. I bet you can look up the details on your states Cosmetology Commission's website. Good Luck! How to be a Nail technician/manicure teacher?
you can go to a store where the ppl do manicures or to a high school cuz they hav hair and annistetics there and then ask them about it and adk them hoe they got the job and things like that.
You have to have your license, probably years of experience. You wouldn't teach at a college you would teach at a vocational school. Contact your local vocational school and get information about the requirements to teach.

How do I lookup my National Nail Technician licence??

You might want to contact your state licensing board. They administer the tests.

Do you have to be certified in the state of texas to be a nail technician?

And is there an online schooling someone can do to become a nail technician?Do you have to be certified in the state of texas to be a nail technician?
In 49 of the 50 states, yes...You do need a valid license to do nails - Texas included. The only state that does not require a license for either nail techs of estheticians is Connecticut. For more information, use this link...

http://www.nailsmag.com/pdfs/handouts/na鈥?/a>Do you have to be certified in the state of texas to be a nail technician?
Pretty sure you have to be certified in ANY state. If there is a Online Class, It's just a scam. You need the requirements, Class, and hours to complete the course. It probley wouldn't even be recongized by the state board(Where you take the exam, and get your license.). Besides, It's a Hands on Course, Not a sit down and learn whenever you feel like it course.

That would be like a blessing to me!! It is not easy to go out and get you nails and hair done when you are a single mom with kids, and plus I like the party idea, something to do for like a girls get together. I am tired of the same old parties that we have and this would be something new! I would use it over going to the shop.If there was a mobile nail technician in your are would you use it?
yes for girls' parties. Doing pedi too? I'm here for that! Dont forget assisted living facilities where alot of the ladies dont have cars.

  • What is the best way to start a nail technician career in Birmingham Alabama?

Well, you need to call around and see what beauty school you need to attend first. You have to have a license to do that. If you do already have you license, your best bet is to start small, but think big. How much money to you want to invest? You really need to have a good clientel to do this. Start off in a normal salon and work up a good business there. Save you money and spend wisely. If you want to jump head on in, you need to advertise. Maybe doing radio commercials or cable TV commercials. Adverise in the paper. Tell all your friends and family. I am a small business owner myself and also am a cosmetologist. If you need more tips, please feel free to e-mail or IM me and I will help you any way I can. Good Luck!!!What is the best way to start a nail technician career in Birmingham Alabama?
You have to go to a beauty/tech school and complete enough hours for a nail license. It used to be 600 hours but that was a long time ago and artificial nails have come a long way in the last 15 years when I went. Then you have to go to Montgomery to pass the state board exam. (I believe it is still located in Montgomery) I do not know if you MUST work for or under somebody else for a certain amount of time before you can own your own nail shop. As far as opening a business, I hope you have the money or very good credit. What is the best way to start a nail technician career in Birmingham Alabama?

Is it a smart idea to purse Nail Technician certificate, if working on pursing a Communication degree?

I have a friend who is pursing a Communication degree, she still haves about 2 years to go. However, now she is thinking about pursing a Nail Technician certificate so that she can do nails. Is this a smart move? I鈥檓 not sure what to tell her. She has two kids and they are relying on her husband鈥檚 income ($45,000-$50,000 a yr) and she feels the need to contribute to the household. BTW, she still wants to purse the Communication degree, but she says she needs to earn an income now.

So the question basically is: Is it a smart move or idea to purse both concurrently? Do nail technicians even make a sufficient income? I don't want her to waste her time, if it's not a good idea. Do you think it will just be a waste of money and time as well?

Thanks. Your insights are appreciated. Is it a smart idea to purse Nail Technician certificate, if working on pursing a Communication degree?
i think its smart so long as its not going to distract her from her communication program which is really her main focus. The scheduling of those courses is usually flexible for pple who have other things on their plate. My friend was a chemistry major and did a massage therapy course in the evenings... it didn't take that long for her to get certified, she got financial aid to do the program, and now she has lots of extra spending money (she's a semester away from finishing her bachelor's degree in chem.) and works really good hours. It was a little hard for her to get the money to pay the subsidized fees and her grades suffered a little but she says its worth it. I don't really think you should tell her what to do either way, let her decide, she's obviously an adult... at worst, she'll waste time and money for a few months, at best, she'll develop a new, marketable, back-up skill!!!Is it a smart idea to purse Nail Technician certificate, if working on pursing a Communication degree?
If she's that hard up for extra income she should just utilize the talents she already has and just get a damn job. Why spend more money and take more time away from the pursuit of her main career goal? Tell her to get a Sunday paper, or get on Monster.com and find somebody that'll give her a paycheck.

Can the nail technician do anything about nails that ahve the tendency of growing ingrown?

No. You have to see a podiatrist for treatment. Nail techs cannot perform medical, or surgical procedures, only doctors can.

How much money can you make as a nail technician? (Only people working in the field answer please)?

    8 dollars an hour

Is it worth be training to be a nail technician in this current climate with the credit crunch?

i want to become a nail technician, but im scared that ill pay the money for the course, and then not get any clients because of the recession?

wot do you think? is it worth it?

thanksIs it worth be training to be a nail technician in this current climate with the credit crunch?
I think its worth it, there will always be ladies wanting to look good even in a recession/depressionIs it worth be training to be a nail technician in this current climate with the credit crunch?
I think that really depends on your location and how saturated it is with other technicians/businesses. Women are always going to want their nails and feet done, so it's a solid business (especially now, with proms, etc.). Like any business, it has busy seasons and then a lull. It would think you'd only have slight money problems during lulls. If it's what you want to do, however, and you love doing it, go for it! You're bound to be successful if you love what you do :)

How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?

Every couple of weeks I go to the nail salon and have a pedicure and have either a refill or a new set of nails put on (I use pearl tips and pearl refills are horrible so once a month I remove my set and have a new one put on). I always ask for the same technician as she really does a great job. My bill comes to around $50 and I leave a 20% tip. I always pay by credit card and add the tip. I always put the technician's name at the top of the CC receipt so that the owner knows who the tip belongs to. I know that she will have to pay taxes on the tip, but that's only fair (I have to pay taxes on my salary and bonuses). My concern is that she won't get her tip. Can someone please tell me how this works? How can I be sure she's getting what's hers? I have been tempted to ask her, but I think that is really crass. How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?
Pay for the service with the credit card, then be sure to have cash on hand for the tip. This way, you can hand it to her directly, and know that she received what you intended for her.

In some places (primarily restaurants) where tips are applied to credit card purchases, it is policy to equally divide the tips among the servers. Even though the name of the server is usually on the receipt, it is time-consuming tor management to go through hundreds of receipts - and most won't take the time to insure each person gets their fair share.

This is unfair to those who do an exceptionally good job, and receive a higher tip - they are forced to share the same with the lousy server who neglected his/her patrons. How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?
I would really give the tip straight to the technician.

    other wise theres no knowing.
If you do not have cash on hand to tip her seeing that you know how much it will be then do what I do... I leave a little envelope with her name on it, and let her know how much tip she will receive - BUT be sure to ask the owner if they deduct anything from the tip - for the owner is charged 3 or 5% of the charge from the credit card company - therefore your tip might be deducted that 3 or 5% (whatever the agreement is between the salon and the credit card company).

The owner may not, but I have been to many that do. I say, if you go often, than make a point of having the cash on hand for the tip, and give it right to her after you pay.
why don't you just bring cash and hand it to her personally with a ';Thank you';. In the restaurants I always leave the server cash even if I pay the bill by cc

Trying to become esthetician, massage therapists, fitness trainer, and a nail technician?

I want to do it all:

    I'm seeing myself as a:

    massuese

    certified personal fitness trainer

    aesthetician

    nail technician

and maybe even a nutrionist and a dermatologist

How can I make this happen? What's schools would you recommend and what certification do I need?

Thanks!Trying to become esthetician, massage therapists, fitness trainer, and a nail technician?
It's hard to recommend a school since I don't know where you live, but there are many schools across the country that offer massage, aesthetician/dermatology, hair and nail training all together since they are related. You may also want to check with your local community college. They normally offer certificates for this training and it costs alot less than those fancy schools. I think you can expect to be in school for a year or two to complete the training. To be a certified personal fitness trainer, I have seen some programs where you go to like 4-6 all days sessions and then you take a test and you're certified, so I believe that one is the quickest. And if I remember correctly it was about $400-$600. I hope this helps you! Good Luck!Trying to become esthetician, massage therapists, fitness trainer, and a nail technician?

I'm then hoping to do a nail extensions course in January and a Pedicure course which starts in February. Can I just go straight for a job after I get those level 2 qualifications? I live in England.Any tips for learning to be a nail technician?
I'm not a nail tech myself, but I would think that 'practice makes perfect' as that ol' adage goes :) The hands-on experience can really help to hone one's skills and technique with the amount of manual dexterity that it takes to work on someone else's nails. In the states, I was under the impression that one needs their certification before working in a salon as a tech though not sure about the UK. Perhaps you can call some area beauty or nail salons and ask them of the minimum requirements to get a job as a nail tech. And the course should cover basic anatomy and physiology of especially the hands and feet as well as some chemistry and one should learn that for their job as well as for the exam. Good luck in school!

Annual earnings may range from $12,000 to $32,000, depending on how many hours he works and how much he charges for services. The average nail technician works 34.5 hours a week.

The fee for a basic manicure is $17 on average, while a pedicure is about $32. Spa manicures and pedicures that incorporate aromatic foot soaks, reflexology massage or paraffin wax dips, can be $75 or more. Specialized nail services can also add up to a nice paycheck.

A full set of sculptured acrylic nails averages more than $45.

ThanksDoes any one how to become a qualified nail technician?
I started my education at a local technical school while I was in high school. Once you get enrolled and have a student ID, you can attend trade shows and classes. I went for my full cosmetology license, so I could do hair, skin, and nails. I highly reccomend that, because sitting at a desk doing nails and pedicures all day can be really boring. It's nice to move around.

Buy books on the subject first, before you take the class. You don't make a whole lot of money, and setting up a clientelle is hard at first. You do a whole lot of sitting. Also, check your area's licensure requirements to see how much time you'll have to invest in your education.

Can you become a nail technician through apprenticeship?

I live in Missouri and I was recently offered a job at a nail salon, providing I earn my license. Does anyone know a website or where I could go to find out more information? Can you become a nail technician through apprenticeship?
I'm not sure, but I'm pretty confident that the owner of any reputable salon would not do anything illegal--they could lose their salon and their reputation. If it's a sketchy place, just go ahead and do what they say-- you can't get into trouble unless you know it's wrong or you point blank lie to customers who ask and say you went to school, or print out a fake certificate.

Hi, I'm a licensed nail technician. I'll try to answer your question as best as I can. That said, the cost of attending a nail training program that will prepare you for licensing in your home state varies from school to school. It depends on where you go. I want to do nail technician work outside of my current job, will i have to pay tax?

I'm currently on maternity leave and done a nail technician course in this time, I'm due to go back to my normal job in April but i want to do some private work doing nails. Will i have to pay tax and stuff like that? I have no idea, and i don't want to get in trouble?I want to do nail technician work outside of my current job, will i have to pay tax?
You don't have to set up as a limited company and deal with Companies House for this.

Register with your tax office for self-employment, and you will get an annual Tax Return with a self-employment page, and an employment page. This should be done within three months of starting. If your earnings are small, it may be possible to include a restriction in your code number to collect any tax involved. Otherwise you will pay on the set dates of 31st January and 31st July, although it is a bit different for the first year of trading.

When were you thinking of starting? No doubt you are on reduced pay at the minute, so there may be no liability for this tax year, which ends on 5th April, depends on what maternity pay you are getting. I assume you will do both nails and job after April?I want to do nail technician work outside of my current job, will i have to pay tax?

Yes, if you want to work privately you will need to set yourself up a limited company and register your company with Companies House. You will have to fill in a tax return and pay tax on your earnings but at the same time, you can claim things like travel costs and materials back so that you're not paying tax on them.

Have a look at the link below which will give you an idea of how to get started (but this isn't an official source; you might find that there are some government websites which are more useful).
Yes you have to pay tax on all earned income, you need to have a word with HMRC as to how you go about it.
Of course, all income is taxable.

Most beauticians are open until 10pm these days to cater for people that work, so they may ask you to rent a chair, or you work for them and you get paid a percentage of what they take with each set you do. Or you could work from home. At the moment, for my acrylics, I pay 拢25 for a new set every week. What can i earn as a nail technician?

    Great question.

Most courses give you NO clue how to make money.

I came accross this which seems superb.

all depends on where you work. like some place make up pay for renting space but like if you doing it from your home then you get payed what you chargers
prices vary from as little as 拢15 a set from home anything nupto 拢30 from a salon for a set of nails. your best bet is to get into a salon so you can improve by learning frm technicians around you. a percentage split is what worksmin your favour when you start out as the rent could be more then you take

What are the important procedures to make your nail technician business a success?

Thanks in advance for any answers!xWhat are the important procedures to make your nail technician business a success?
Sanitary conditions!! All tools cleaned after each client and so on.

Focus on the costumer. I know that seems silly to say, but I have gone to have my nails done and the nail tech never talked to me. She was too busy talking to her friends.

Have a book to mark down things you have done for your clients or may do in the future. For example: While I'm getting my nails done, I mention how it might be cool to have black tips around Halloween. A week before Halloween I show up for a regular fill. I may have forgotten about the black tips. However, if you check your book before I arrive, and say, ';So are you ready for those black tips this week?' I will be impressed as heck and probably give you a bigger tip. Same with if Susie says she HATES the color red. Note that for yourself, so if you help pick out polishes, you won't offer those to her.

Offer a punch card type of thing. For every 10 fills get one free, or something like that.

Have current magazines for people waiting. Toss them when folks have ripped them apart. Don't keep them the whole month if they are falling apart and so on. Its a little touch, but believe me people notice.

Maybe have a candy dish out on the counter or something similar.

    Best of Luck to you!!

Upon completion of the Nail Technician course the student will have knowledge of nail wrapping, acrylic nails, sculpturing nail tips, anatomy, nail structure, oil manicures, water manicures, French manicures, nail irregularities, diseases and sanitation.

A typical day will consist of a combination of theory, practical and clinical experiences. students may begin performing basic services on clients on a rotation basis. Tests are given at the end of each chapter. Students are tested on practical skills as well as theory. Tests are essay, multiple choice and fill in.

  • How to go about becoming a professional nail technician?

Hiya I'm thinking of becoming a nail technician and found loads of courses in london, but i just need to know which one is the best and what to look out for. i would like to do the full works- manicure pedicure, gels, acrylics and fiberglass. Most of the courses i looked at only last a few days so i need to know if it's possible to learn all that in a week? Thank You!!!How to go about becoming a professional nail technician?
Becoming a nail technician is a great career to pursue. Women always love getting their nails done and you will have the satisfaction of turning their nails into works of art. Here are my tips and advice for becoming a nail professional.

    Go to school

In order to become a nail technician, you must gain the knowledge. Do some research and find a vocational school that offer courses and certificates specifically catered to becoming a nail technician. Once you find the right school, I would highly recommend applying for financial aid.

Go to the Federal Financial Aid website and fill out an application. This will help you pay for classes and learning materials. Also request an application for student grants and loans.

    Classes

If you would one day like to open up your own nail salon, it would also be a good idea to take a few business classes. Community colleges will offer a variety of business classes for a low price. You may also want to take a few accounting or math classes, to help you manage your money correctly. Knowledge is power!

    License

Once have completed your education, the next step is to get your license. Check your individual state's board of cosmetology licensing requirements to make sure you qualify. Be prepared to spend hours studying and performing various nail art patterns on fingernails and toes before trying to become a professional. Wile working towards obtaining your license, you may want to become an apprentice at an already established nail salon.

    Career

Once you have the knowledge and the license, you are now ready to work as a nail technician. I would suggest working at a nail salon that modern and up date on techniques. After successfully working as nail technician, you can branch off and open your own salon. Will need a loan and most likely a business license in order to do that. Once you have open you own salon, give other up and coming apprentices and nail technicians an opportunity, just like someone gave you one.

How much money can a nail technician make?

Can I make an independent living doing this? How much money can a nail technician make?
Well, as a licensed nail technician, you can actually rent a table (space) in some salons. There is a drawback if the salon is not a high trafficked area. So, you would have to self-promote your work. Plus, you need to be extremely good! I would suggest working in an upscale salon if possible. The money is better and the tips normally larger. But again, the rent would be higher for the space.

I owned my own nail business in Germany and I earned about $800 a week. But that was if all clients booked actually showed. I would not take walk-ins. I was working on a Military Post... so the majority of my clients were American Military wives and I charged very little... and the tips were very small. BUT, my German clients would pay double what I charged and would tip extremely well... I also offered a UNIQUE product... Gel nails... opposed to the acrylic... Although I did both, Gel nails were extremely popular and quickly became a favorite to all my clients and sealed the acrylics with a permanent shine and helped prevent lifting caused by excessive water exposure.

So, if you offer high quality work and can successfully promote yourself as well as acquire a devoted clientele (and offer them a unique product like the gels), then going to work for yourself would probably be in your best interest.

It never hurts to start out at a salon that offers a wage versus rental space. This way, you can build your clientele and then when you decide to go into business for yourself, you most likely will take your devoted clientele with you.

My average year was about $30,000 minus product, supplies and rent. After tax, well鈥? you get the point鈥? :-) So, it is a great income for a double income family, but as far as a single income, you better love what you are doing!!

Well... I hope this helps...How much money can a nail technician make?
On average depending on what school you to. You can make anywhere from 8.00 an hour to 12.00 starting off. It also depends on what salon you work at as well, because depending on where you are the clientelle will be better and tip more. After 5-9 years the median salary is still 9.00- 12.00 an hour. After working for 20 or more years you can make up to 25.00 an hour. The starting off salary is not very good and if you are living on your own it might be very hard. After you have been doing it for some time you could possibly live on your own. Also if you eventually ended up opening your own nail salon then your wages would change. I got this from payscale.com. You can check out any career there.
    Not so much.....maybe $20,000 a year
why dont you try googleling it?

How much to tip a nail technician?

I'm getting a full set of gel nails tomorrow, with a French manicure. Is there a standard percentage for tipping my nail tech? How much to tip a nail technician?
I asked my friend who does this because I had the same question. She said that if they are really good, it is usually the 18-20% you would leave your hairdresser. How much to tip a nail technician?
depending on what other services you have and where you live determines on what you tip. I have a salon 2 doors down from where i work and i see alot of different tips. I personally tip 3-5 dollars per technician. So if i get my nails done with a fancy paint job then i tip that person $5. If i also get my tootsies done then i tip another 3-5$. I usually tip more on the pedicure, somthing about touching another person's feet.. lol good luck
There is no standard for tipping because she is delivering a service and you are paying her for it. Do you tip the guy at the cleaners, the check out girl at Kroger's? No. Unlike, waiters she is not catering to your every whim - Does she get up and go to the Coke machine for you or bring you a glass of ice for the fresh lemonade she provides? Probably not. If you request an extra coat or a file down- she is going to charge you, PER NAIL. Whatever you leave is acceptable. I wouldn't leave a tip unless you have a nail tech that delivers something more than what she is suppose to (like courtesy crudites or cappuccino).
depends usually $2-$3for a manicure and pedicure I leave $5.
I tip my nail tech $5 per service. I get a pedi and a pink %26amp; white fill every 10 days and I tip $10 for that. I've been going to the same tech for a long time and she knows exactly how I like my nails and she always does them perfectly. On the other hand...on the rare occasion that I don't have tome to get to that particular salon and I have to go somewhere else...if the person does a good job, I'll tip $5 but if they don't do it the way I ask, I won't tip. I'm very specific (ok, and fussy, I admit)...but I'm fair.
I have always had tips. It depends on how good they do. If they did what you wanted then 20%. If they did ok then 10% if they did crappy job quickly tell them so they can fix it. You are the one paying for it!

Check with your local Chamber of Comerce, Better Business. Then the local library should have books on ';Starting your own business';. You could even check to see how many business like what you want to open are already in your area--- to many of the same type of business in same area, everyone loses. Some towns even have lists of people who have retired that are willing to talk and advise people wanting to start a business.

How can I become a Nail Technician?

I want to become a nail technician. I live in southern california. I am 17 1/2 years old and I am currently still in high school. I am thinking about getting my GED and then go to community college to get my nail technician license. I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do before I start to go to school for my license or if someone can give me a little more insight about becoming a nail technician, pros and cons. How can I become a Nail Technician?
I am a nail tech I am a trained and LICENSED PROFESSIONALS and I make way more than $10 an hour. I work 3 days a week and I make no less than $27 and hour and that doesn't include retail sales. Pt time job, beyond full time pay.

Many Nail tech's make over $1000 a week.

Do not let anyone tell you, that you cannot support a family or pay your bills with this profession.

It is a honorable profession to make people feel and look their best, The hours are flexible and you will have a great time.

Pros: You can make a GREAT living.

You can work around a family

you will be in the fashion industry and working at the table isn't the only thing you can do. You can work for magazines and trade shows, the sky is the limit.

You will make great relationships to last a life time.

Cons. you have to be patient while you build your clientele.

Working with a lot of other women can get irritating.

    That's it.

I am including a link below for you to visit. Manicurist all over the world come to talk about their profession and the up's and down's. NONE of them would discourage you from joining our wonderful world of nail care and trends.

To begin you need to be in high school or a graduate ( or GED) then all you do is check out the local schools, find one you like and sign up. They will tell you if you need anything. There is nothing special, no course requirements. Just enroll and start learning, be aware you will most likely only learn the basics and that's when you will want to go to shows and talk to the nail tech's in the link below. To understand the salon outside of the basics. How can I become a Nail Technician?
Find a good beauty college to attend.

Don't expect to learn everything you need to know there. You will have to take classes through distributors and manufacturers to really get good information and techniques.

I love doing nails! Some key things to building a good clientele is: do good nails, be on time, be reliable, love working with the public and keep learning.

You can make good money doing nails but you have to do your time. Don't expect the clients to come running into the salon for you. Be there and take the walk-ins. Market yourself around the neighborhood and with the clients in the salon. Sometimes you will have to give away free services to get them in the door.

It's a great job for a girl your age, and a little older, but it's not a good job in the long run. You won't be able to live on your own or raise a family on that salary. Go to college for something that will make you money. Why spend tuition money just to end up making 10.00 an hour?
    hii

Nail technicians perform manicures and pedicures including decorative nail art, application of artificial nails, nail repair, and other specialised hand and foot treatments.

Nail technicians may perform the following tasks:

apply gel and acrylic nail enhancements and extensions

    perform manicures and pedicures

apply knowledge of nail science to nail services

    use electrical equipment for nails

apply decorative and airbrushed nail art

    conduct financial transactions

perform reception duties, e.g. receive bookings and arrange appointments

    perform routine housekeeping duties

    maintain client records

provide advice on and sell nail products.

Working as a nail technician can be physically demanding. Repetitive activities and sitting for long periods can cause strain, while chemicals such as those used in acrylics and polish removers may pose a health risk. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, aprons, dusk masks and safety glasses should be worn to minimise risk. Nail technicians have a high level of public contact, and so need to be well-presented.

    Personal Requirements:

    well-groomed at all times

    good health

    pleasant and tactful manner

    a genuine interest in people

    good interpersonal skills

    great hand-eye coordination

    patience

    creative and artistic ability.

You take the nail Tech course(Unless you want to be licensed in hair and skin too.), The Tech course depends on your states hours, It's usually alot shorter then the Cos. Course(Go to your Cosmetology State board for your state, and look it up, They usually have the hours on how long it takes.), If you get a working permit(Not sure how this goes in your state, But in maine, You can get a 6 month working permit.)...You then go to boards, take your test, and if you pass it, You get your license(Not right then and their, You have to send out the money.), and then you are fully licensed. What steps do I need to take to become a licensed nail technician?
Well, my wife is a licensed nail technician, and it took her 16 years to fully earn her certificate. Rigorous tests, years of schooling, but it all payed off. She sacrificed her social life, having to study each and every day for hours on end. Because of the high demand for this profession, you have to go BIG or go HOME as they say...
actually u dont have to take cosmo

i say dont take cosmo you only cover nails for 2 weeks

go to a nail tech program it takes about a year

most of our nail tech girl get a job before they graduate and start working the day they pass the state test its a really easy test

You will make good money if you work in a fabulous salon. It's not hard to learn. Just make sure you are ready to touch people's funky feet and tolerate the fumes that come with acrylics.
    No and yes.

There is no need to go to college to become a nail technician, however if you can get some sort of certification it will make you look more professional and more likely to get work. You could have it printed on your business cards etc.

Not sure where in the world you are but there are home learning courses available, if you are in UK but there is a company called ICS who run a home based course for a Nail Technician Diploma. net-learners dont offer a degree that I see, and is 725, not 215. Maybe in the UK you dont need certification, but in the US you sure do. Bloodborne pathogens add to your insurance liability, and taxes will ruin you in many cases. By ';tax on the rich'; they mean people like Ste444

You have to attend school and get a state certification.

States require that you be trained in sanitation and other things, and require you to pass a board exam. That is why you go to school.

14 yrs master hairdresser and salon manager, and instructor.
You can even become president without actually going to college... If you have a rich father.
As far as I know of, at least in Texas, you can get a certificate for nails either at a Beauty School or by serving an internship at a nail parlor.
Depends on what state u live in, but usually its based on how many hours is required, since its a trade. Try your states Department Of Regulation, they can tell you how many clock hours u need.

Example: in Illinois, a nail tech needs 350 hours and every odd year 8 hours for Continuing Education

    GOOD LUCK!!

EXCUSE ME SCH, ';Bitchy Girls'; are a sterotype, Shame on you! Dont let that stop u from wanting to make people feel good about themselves, its a great feeling!
I would approach a couple of nail salons in your area and see if they would be willing to train you. There is a salon in my area that trains people which would be better than going to college. However, you don't have to be qualified to do the job, i think it would just help you get more clients if you were.

    Good luck
Some salons do one-on-one teaching for a one off payment. Otherwise NCC do a home course that isnt cheap but may be worth looking into
You can apprentice at an establised salon, it takes quite a bit longer than just going to beauty school (about twice the time) and you make less money over the duration...but you can do it.

I would seriously reconsider this job if you can't handle ';bitchy girls'; it is what the industry is about, even your clients will be bitching to you about their lives and what not. If you want to apprentice for a year and then work for a year to build your clientel then you could open a salon of your own, but you would need to be licensed to do so.

    Good Luck :)

Just find your state, and it will list all the salons/techs in the entire state listed by city/town in alphabetical order. When you click on one of the salon links on the page, it will tell you all you need to know about them, such as the name of the salon, the address %26amp; phone number, they provide the name of the person to contact about services, and they also give a complete listing of that particular salons specialties - such as gel, acrylic, natural nails, custom blending, and so on.

The good thing about this site is that ALL of the techs/salons that are listed there have been company trained - and certified prior to their being listed on the website. No exceptions. So, these are all 100% legit in every way:

There is also this site that you can try. Just enter your zipcode and it will give you salon info for your area. The information is not as detailed as CND's site, but I know that most, if not all of the techs on this site are also legit. If you find one in your area, just give them a call and ask questions about their gel services. Also ask what product line they are using. Some of the best gel companies (in my opinion) are: CND, Young Nails, Light Concept Nails - or LCN for short (The absolute best gel available!), Light Elegance, and Akzentz. There are a few more, but these are my personal favorites and I'm very familiar with the products from each of these companies.

Anyway, here is the other site:

There is also one other thing that you can try. Unfortunately, they do not have a salon locator online, or at least none that I am aware of, but I can give you the telephone number for the company's United States headquarters. This company is LCN. No doubt about it, LCN is arguably the very best gel manufacturer anywhere. Its made in Germany, and its expensive - like three times the cost of other gel products, so you can expect to pay more for gel full sets from a tech who uses this product line. I have seen LCN techs advertising full sets for anywhere from $55 to $85. And thats about the norm for this premium gel line. I've done business with them on several occasions and they are very helpful. Anyway, if you are interested, just call them up and I'm sure that someone there can help to locate a tech in your area who uses their products. So, their telephone number is:

    (800) 86-NAILS or (860) 528-7477. Their website is located at:

The last one is for Akzentz gels. Here is their contact info page. Again, you can call them up and they can help you locate a 100% legit salon that uses their products in your area. This is a VERY good line of gels. From this page, you can also take a look at their nail gallery for some pics of nails done using their products, and just browse around for info if you want:

Good luck, and I hope this was helpful to you!

What qualification do I need to work in a beauty salon as a nail technician?

Do I need an NVQ or will a diploma do? There are home learn courses that give you a diploma that match the NVQ exactly. What qualification do I need to work in a beauty salon as a nail technician?
Nail technician? Is that even a real job?

    An advanced colouring-in diploma?

How can it be a recession if people still have the money to pay for bleedin nail technicians? What qualification do I need to work in a beauty salon as a nail technician?
a degree in cosmotology (can't spell it) i would look in your big heavy phone book under salon, or training and look for school of cosmotology, the courses take about 3 months and you can get your degree good luck.

Honestly, i really don't know if that would work, I have no experience in this kind of thing. I, on the other hand, would probably walk into a well-known, nice salon, or nail bar, and ask how you get a degree. Ask an expert. Good luck!! (or you can call)
My friend applied to a local nail bar where they trained her up and sent her on the NVQ level 2 and then level 3. I'd approach your local reputable nail bar, they should be able to advise you on what you need to do and how to go about applying for courses. Or you could ask your careers adviser if you're still in school or your local college?
u need a nail tecnician qualification, duno what theyre called though? whats a NVQ? look in ur local beautician schools they'l always ae courses or go into a beauticians and ask do they train. i always see adverts for these courses.

    I really doubt u need a degree though...would u? a degree?
    none whatsoever
    not many!

Is being a nail technician considered a blue collar or a white collar job?

I'm quite confused... my friends and I were just debating this (for no good apparent reasons). Is being a nail technician considered a blue collar or a white collar job?
It could be both. She could be a nail tech to the rich and famous and make lots of money, or she could be a nail tech in a lower end salon, and not making as much.

Honestly...I dislike labelling Nail techs as 'White collar' or blue collar. It's a middle class job, where the person can make as much money as they want.Is being a nail technician considered a blue collar or a white collar job?
I would say blue collar since it is a physical job and you have to use your hands.
    blue collar
    what's the difference?
