What damage could you as a nail technician do if you didnt understand anatomy on the hands and feet?

im in urgent need of some helpWhat damage could you as a nail technician do if you didnt understand anatomy on the hands and feet?
if you did a proper course as a nail tech you should of been advised all of this. I did a hair and beauty course a while ago and althought i didn't complete it the first thing we were taugh was when not to do a procedure on a client. Contra-indications!!!!!! there's aload of them. What damage could you as a nail technician do if you didnt understand anatomy on the hands and feet?
You could stain the color of someone's nails...pemanently (it's not that hard to do..I almost did it once myself). Or screw up the orthopedics of someones hands (ie. by using specific nail shapes/sizes that just never work). The infection thing is also true.

Apart from that though, you'd just be a bad nail technician.

You could confuse someone's hands for their feet?
Dont put too much faith in these courses, i make A LOT of money at home doing it on the side with all the proper equipment, and i dont know anything about the anatomy. Good Luck Chick!
Extreme laceration? It depends on how mentally stable the nail technician is.
You could induce a fungal nail infection if, say, you put acrylics on a wet nail bed.

  • What do I need to do to become a nail technician?

Phone up your local colleges and ask for a prospectus and see if they do a beauty or nail course. Most of the colleges should do an adult learners course in the evening, if you work full time. You should get a qualification for these courses, but check with your local college and see.

After you have a qualification the world is your oyster! Good luckWhat do I need to do to become a nail technician?
people with nailsWhat do I need to do to become a nail technician?
    a jack hammer
I would want my nail technician to have taken a course over a period of time, and to have something to prove she/he knows what she/he is doing.

    Good luck!
You can do a night course over a 6 month period but if you want to work in a beauticians maybe you should go to beauty school a learn everything .
let me guess, you have straight blonde hair, fake st.tropez tan, jeans that show your stretchmark belly, you live with your mummy, you have a boyfriend who has a fiesta and you live on a council estate. Right? I bet a few of those things are. The place where I live is full of people like that. Your question just reminded me that's all. Answer to your question, do a one day's course and already you'll be qualified. *lol* A deeply meaningful career.
It may depend on in which state you live. Some require a license, but you will need to go to school to learn the techniques, either way.
    Go to beauty school.
You must be aware that different jobs require different types of nails - I'd say the MINIMUM you need is a good hammer and a selection of nails.
    A claw hammer
    Hands and eyes!
Go to either a technical school or a cosmetology college. Check out the various ones in your area as the prices may greatly vary. You may be able to get grants too. Ask students what they think of the schools, they are very honest about the education they are getting. You could also do an apprenticeship at a nail salon if the owner is licensed to teach you. Sometimes, they will just be in it for the $ they'd be making off of you, so you have to be careful of that. Good luck.
It can be done in less than a year. Some people need to work through Cosmetology school so they take the two year course. I would just get it done in a year. Buckle down and go to school and work. Lot's of girls did it when I was in Coz school. Every state is different in their requirements for being a nail tech. In Michigan, you have to go to Cosmetology school. Pass. Pay for and take a state board exam (written and practical). Pass that and then pay and apply for your licence.

It sounds harder than it is.
    go to cosmetology school.
    Don't bite them!
you have to go and do a Manicure course then from then you can take alot of different courses of nail extensions, nail art things like that you get silk and fiberglass nails which i am trained in also gel, Acyrlic, Sulpture ect go to you nearest college which does beauty they usally hold night courses.
I've got an ebook you can have.

I want to do nvq level 1 and 2 in being a nail technician, but i dont want to go to college?

can i do this from home and get an nvq?I want to do nvq level 1 and 2 in being a nail technician, but i dont want to go to college?
Nail technician? hahahaha, the job titles you can get now........

Is that the same as a manicurist? I expect you have to go to college because surely you have to do practicing on nails and someone has to watch you to assess how well you are doing it.

What's so bad about college anyway?

Does anyone know if a nail technician makes good money?

does anyone know if a nail technician makes good money and if anyone likes dong it as a career or part time job im goin to school to become a nail technician any advise would help thanksDoes anyone know if a nail technician makes good money?
no they dont. on average in the US, they make between 10,000 and 25,000 full time a year. which is not enough.

i would reccomend you look into a differant career.

if you are looking into a 2 year degree, the best two fields to get into right now are assistant nurse and assistant dentist.Does anyone know if a nail technician makes good money?
    yes they do.

My boss' sister and law does it for a living. He says she makes about 2k a week. Including tips. If you work at a nice nail salon, you should expect a good amount of money flowing in :)
i made a 1000$ in two weeks at my family nail salon %26amp; and thats without adding the tips. i didnt liked the job itself, i just did for the money.

Hi ive not long had a baby and would love to train as a nail technician at home. Its difficult to get college?

iv seen lots companys with trainee packs for home but they cost a fortune. has anybody done this before and no any cheap courses thanxHi ive not long had a baby and would love to train as a nail technician at home. Its difficult to get college?
If you want to go to college they do have creches in some and if you are on a low income sometimes you can get the course free. Look in your library for info on college coursesHi ive not long had a baby and would love to train as a nail technician at home. Its difficult to get college?
Go to your local family learning centre, (if there is one) there is one near me. It offers free creche facilities and your course is free if you live in the area. They have lots of courses to choose from on different subjects. Check out see if there is one in your area. Congrats and good luck x
there are scholarships available for highly qualified students in the nail technology industry. Suggest you Google them.

Also, the food services industry is looking for people like you.
Don't know about home training pack, but my local college has loads of evening courses you can take for that type of thing. Everything, from just taking something up as a hobby to actually taking the official certificate in something. If you want a proper qualification (which you will need if you want to get a decent job in the industry), it's going to cost you more, as the exams cost money.

Your local college should have a part time/mature student prospectus, which might be available online (with costs).

The best thing to do is go to their open evening (which should be in the next few months) and speak to someone about what you want to do etc.

Another good place to go is www.learndirect.co.uk, which can give advice about careers. Their call centre staff are helpful and well trained.
hi, my daughter is just ove 13 mnths now, i started my nail tech course wen she was 6 mnths old. i did a night course just one evening a week. it only cost about 150 quid and it was well worth it, it lasted 17 weeks and now im fully qualified. get a part time prospectus from your nearest college and see wat they have to offer.

I want to do some Nail Technician Courses, any ideas??

I want to do the courses also Manicure %26amp; Pedicure while I'm still in my current job, I would prefernot to home learn although this looks like a possibility at the mo. Also they are very very expensive??

I live in Fakenham, Norfolk UK can someone help me plese??I want to do some Nail Technician Courses, any ideas??
Okay, Im not in the Uk, but am hoping to do the same as you, soon.. Look into Beauty Colleges, in or around your area, they should hopefully offer part-time courses, that you can do at night, a couple nights per week, for how ever long the duration of the course is... Good Luck to you...

See if your local college does the NVQ level 3 Beauty Therapy nail services course...some courses are disappearing but I dont think this is one of them. A year long part time course. This is the one I did and its very thorough (i dont trust these qualify in a week courses, you cant possibly learn everything in that time)Any ideas on how to become an nail technician?
That's good to know that you're venturing out into another field. Why not try to enroll on nail technician courses such as cosmetology? Then if you graduated, you can start posting your services online as well and get clients. There's a lot of online websites such as www.servicedfw.com that allows service providers like nail technicians to post their profiles and look for potential clients. Good Luck!
yes you need to do 2yrs beauty therapy course then you will have more options, you can do a year nail technician course or massage, there are a few things you can do after beauty therapy course, i wanted to do that after my beauty ther course but i fell pregnant, any collage an your area will give you information. good luck!
There are specific courses you need to take, both in technique as well as health code regulations. Then you will need to pass a health department test before you can get your certificate.

It's a great portable skill, good luck!
You have to go to a Cosmetology School, The Cos. School will have a Nail Tech Course you can take.
Most colleges do full or part time nail tech courses now.
go to college some places do evening lessons aswell as days.

What is certified nail technician? Do I need to go to college? How long? Is on line course enough?

Certified nail technicians are licensed to provide manicures, pedicures, coloring, and extensions. With all the advances in artificial nail products and the chemistry of nails that are needed. You do need to attend to some kind of college or Prep School for that specific career, depending on the college it can take a minimum of six months or up to 1-2 years. To get the nail technician certification you usually need a certain amount of hours on the job without a pay- the hours depend on the state that you are living in. I do believe that there are courses that you can take online for that career.

  • Become a nail technician online?

What are the requirements to become a nail technician in the state of NY?

Is there somewhere I can take the courses entirely online?Become a nail technician online?
Sorry, you can't do it online. It requires ';hands on'; training. Check your local community college.

Where can you take nail technician courses online?

I don't think you can. To be a nail tech you must take a written and practical exam by the state board so I'm not sure you can do that on line. SorryWhere can you take nail technician courses online?
I don't think you can. Most states have sanitation laws surrounding manicures, and you have to take the exam after graduating from beauty school.

If you have healthy nails why are you getting fake ones? What to ask the nail technician?
No, Getting fake nails don't hurt. But if you want to keep your nails healthy, Don't get Acrylic or Gel.
It does not hurt, and you should get arylic, I have never even heard solar. So sorry I can't help you with the difference between them but really it does not hurt though. Just ask them to do your nails. Unless you want a design or something on your nails.

What site can i use to, help me find a Nail Technician that is needed for my Beauty Salon?

You can use monster and create an account as an employer, but I find the newspaper works the best. You can just put in an ad, it's not expensive, and you will find more people in your area.

When looking for a job, most people check the newspaper still.

What is the best way to start a nail salon? I am already in nail technician classes.?

First of all start with your family and friends. Then get a place to begin to do the nails, of course there will be expansion when all of the $$$ starts rolling in. Place advertisements in the local newspapers. If you are near a college campus, purchase an ad, it may even be cheaper. Pass out business cards. There are free ones on certain websites. Depending on the size of the city you live in, you may want to pass out flyers--not mail them, this is another word for junk mail. All of this is low to no cost.

  • What is the proper percentage to tip a nail technician? A hair stylist?

Well, you see it really depends where you live, and where the shop is located. I know that personally that it varies in cities and states. If you are going to the typical asian nail and hair salons, usually the right tips that they should receive would be from five to ten dollars. Depending on who you are, if you are a daily customer, they would tip their person a little more. On the other hand if you are going to a spa salon owned by a company, or Caucasian people, you would tip them a bit, or a lot more. I personally know a bit more because I have family members that works at nail and hair salons. I hope that I helped you!

Btw, the yahooer on top of me is also very correct about the facts that she told you. They don't actually get the whole pay you give them. Like if you had a thirty dollar Mani, they would probably only get about 17 dollars or somewhat. So, when people tip them with a larger amount, like ten dollars, they really appreciate it. As the yahooer said, most of the people working are immigrants. Though they are very dedicated and hard working. What is the proper percentage to tip a nail technician? A hair stylist?
I tip 20 to 30% because they are usually immigrants here on work visas. Once I had a $115 mani and pedi and after everything was deducted the person only got $30 from this. I felt bad so after I did the math I gave them a big tip. What is the proper percentage to tip a nail technician? A hair stylist?
nail stylest about 5. hair stylest about 5-10
    $10+ ??

How much does it cost to go to school to become a nail technician?

Depends on the school...All cosmetology schools are different, with different prices...But it won't be cheap....Find a School you are intreseted in, and find out how much the school is...and make sure it's accredited, or else they won't take financial aid.

Check at your community college first. Since you have a child, you should be able to get finanical aid. If your community college doesn't offer it, then look into private vocational schools. The prices will vary by school.

Around here the private schools cost about $1500 for an 8 week course to be a nail tech.

Remember that ';cheap and quick'; might not be the best. Once you start your career as a nail tech, you will want to have the best education behind you.

  • What did this nail technician do?

I saw a nail technician who buffed my nails, which were a bit yellow. They were instantly white. She then put an oil on. Even after using nail polish and polish remover the sheen from the oil remained. My questions are: are there different types of buffers? If so which one did she likely use? Will it weaken my nails in the long term? Would the sheen from the oil last without buffing? Are there different types of oils? Which did she likely use? Sorry there are so many questions. What did this nail technician do?
The sheen is from the buffing. You should only buff your nails once a week. They were probably yellow from being polished all the time. Go to Sally's and ask for a good nail buffer and oil! What did this nail technician do?

How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?

Every couple of weeks I go to the nail salon and have a pedicure and have either a refill or a new set of nails put on (I use pearl tips and pearl refills are horrible so once a month I remove my set and have a new one put on). I always ask for the same technician as she really does a great job. My bill comes to around $50 and I leave a 20% tip. I always pay by credit card and add the tip. I always put the technician's name at the top of the CC receipt so that the owner knows who the tip belongs to. I know that she will have to pay taxes on the tip, but that's only fair (I have to pay taxes on my salary and bonuses). My concern is that she won't get her tip. Can someone please tell me how this works? How can I be sure she's getting what's hers? I have been tempted to ask her, but I think that is really crass. How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?
Ask her. She will be happy that you are concerned for her.

    Or -- why don't you just take $10 cash and hand it to her and say thanks? If you think it looks tacky to hand someone cash, wrap it in a little piece of memo-paper reading ';Thanks, from Sally.';

Trust me, i've been in jobs where you get tips, and it is very nice to know that the people are actually grateful for your good work. How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?
walk over and hand it to her. If it is on your charge . then ask for the cash , and then walk over and hand it to her.
Give it to her directly in cash.
The only way you can be sure is to give her cash in person.
Just give her cash - stop at the ATM, if necessary. I never trust credit card tips, either.
    TIP HER DIRECTLY IN CASH
A lot of women give a cash tip in advance of getting the work done, especially if the regular technician is doing the job. You already know she will do a great job, so there should be no problem tipping in advance. I usually pay in advance so that I don't risk messing up my nails afterwards. A lot of technicians often ask to be paid upfront for this reason,

I wouldn't recommend an on-line course anyway. It is too important to have the on hands experience. This comes from someone who is in this field

It all depends on how profitable you think your manicurist/pedicurist will be. Generally, rent only.Would i charge a nail technician booth rent or a percentage at my business? and if so how much of a percentage

Thinking of training as a nail technician - need advice?

Im thinking of taking a two day course in gel and acrylic nail extensions and was wondering if anyone does this for a living and do they find it a success?

In other words do you think it will be worth my while?Thinking of training as a nail technician - need advice?
Unfortunately, a two day course will not prepare you to be a nail technician. The actual requirements vary from state to state, but most states require several hundred hours worth of training before you can qualify to take the state boards, and become licensed as a nail professional. Generally, you can complete a nail education program in about six months.

But if you want to do nails for a living, don't let that fact discourage you in the least bit! Here is a link to a website with detailed information regarding education, and license requirements for each state:

    http://www.nailsmag.com/pdfs/handouts/NA…

Also, I found this site to be somewhat helpful for locating a nail program in your area. It will give you the names, addresses, and phone numbers of different schools in your area, but not much else. But it is a good place to start!

    http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/

For me, doing nails is very rewarding because I love what I do. Whether it will be worth your while or not is up to you. Attending a nail training program is only the first step. Once you get out of school, the rest is up to you. I won't lie to you - its tough for a 'newbie' in this field. It takes a while to get a steady flow of regular customers. And the hours can be long. Don't forget, the hours you work are going to be when most women have the time available to get their nails done. This means weekends, nights, and some holidays too. It is not a Monday-Friday, 9-5 job. I mean, it could be if thats what you want. But if you want to go anywhere in this field, you have to work at the convenience of your clients, and not yours.

But even with all that, I personally wouldn't give up my job in the nail industry for anything else. And many other techs also feel the same way about it.

I hope this helps!Thinking of training as a nail technician - need advice?
of course it would be worthwhile..as for training why not get in touch with your local college and see what they have to offer in their ''hair and beauty'' courses or the appropriate department whatever it maybe named..and if it is a dream of yours then the only way to make it a reality is to get as much info on courses as you can ..good luck with it
it seems everyone is doing this now caz so while i wouldnt put you off doing i would try and think of some thing else you might like aswell as a fall back option goodluck
    Hey Hunny_X

Yeah It Is A Success But It Would Be Best For You To Go To Your Local College %26amp; Do It There.Maybe You Should Consider Doing ';Hair %26amp; Beauty'; As Nails Come Into That Anyway.ツ

GoodLuck...Was It A College Course Or A Home College Course Your Planning On Doing.
There are so many asian women in England at the moment that do nails for about £15-20 I wouldn't bother- even I don't bother with the English places as all the girls do there is talk about east enders instead of concentrating on my nails. Train to do something that will get you somewhere in life

Im studying to be a nail technician does anyone know if the anatomy is important?

Very important. There are pressure points in the feet, hands and wrists that could lead to extended numbing or paralysis if pressed upon in the wrong way or for extended periods of time. You also need to know a great deal about where and how the blood vessels function in the hand and foot areas where skin is very delicate and vascular. You should take the anatomy portion of your education very seriously.Im studying to be a nail technician does anyone know if the anatomy is important?
    YES YES YES PLEASE !!

to understand why removing the cuticle destroys the nail.Im studying to be a nail technician does anyone know if the anatomy is important?
If you want to be a good nail tech then listen to everything your instructor tells you It is all important. The people that don't listen are the ones that make our state boards so strict. Please do everyone a favor and learn everything as if it was the most important. Anatomy is very important, not just the nail plate and the nail bed and surrounding tissues but bones and nerves and muscles. VERY VERY VERY important so learn it well.

thankyou.Im 14 i want to be a nail technician, what qualifications will i need?what will i need to do?
You can do something like a beauty therapy course, most colleges offer them and you don't need loads of GCSEs to do them. It'll give you an insight into many aspects in the beauty industry and you can specialise in more than one subject (like hair and nails or nails and make-up) which will make you more employable.

manicurist is the correct word but another word is nail technician

Which would be a better career to go to beauty school for: A nail technician or an esthetician?

I am really interested in both but can't decide which one would be better and I don't really want to go through a cosmetology program where they teach you hair too I'm not really interested in that so I have to decide which one would be better out of those two. Any help please? :)Which would be a better career to go to beauty school for: A nail technician or an esthetician?
I'm doing aesthetics program and I really like it. I was thinking about nail tech too but I think this field is a little more diverse. You move to different parts of the body: Hand %26amp; feet with reflexology, face for facials, legs arms and eyebrows for waxing. Aesthetics really give people time to relax and leave there problems at the door. I would try it first andafter you finish that program and you still feel a passion for nail tech, go for it. alot of salon and spas like diverse practicioners. That's more money for you. Plus cosmotolegy doesn't go into enough detail as the exactual program does. They just lightly skim those areas even though legally they can preform nail tech and esthetician acts. Good Luck!Which would be a better career to go to beauty school for: A nail technician or an esthetician?
What is it that YOU want to do? Do you want to do nails, Acrylic, Gel, Manicuring, Pedicuring? Or do you want to do Facials, waxing, and make up? You can earn as much money in either career, But if you choose one that you end up really not liking, It'll pretty much suck for you, 'cause your stuck with that unless you want to dish out the money for a Esthetics course.

Why don't you just do Cosmetology? Yeah, It involves hair, But after you graduate school, You don't even have to do hair. You can do Nails and Skin. You may even find that you enjoy doing hair..
