My 15 year old son wants to be a finger nail technician, is he normal ?

Hey what better way to meet girls who like to take care of themselves. Am I right? My 15 year old son wants to be a finger nail technician, is he normal ?
yeah...

thats normal...

My brother in la is a manicurist, i think that may be simaler to a nail technician, idk what that is...

yeah...my brother in law is 36 and he has been doing nails and hair for a really long time and he is really good.

He is happily married with 4 (soon to be 5) kids and he loves his job...

so I dont see any problem with your 15 year lds son wanting to do it too.My 15 year old son wants to be a finger nail technician, is he normal ?
By normal, do you mean straight?

Possibly straight, possibly not. Regardless, why would it matter.

When I was 15 I wanted to be an international lawyer, but I ended up a curriculum director. What you want at 15 has nothing to do with the way your life turns out.
yeah, i dont know what a finger nail technician is, but sure, let him go for it, hes not abnormal, hes just different and unique! :)
He's perfectly normal.
it is a very detailed art that pays well. Its the same as being an artiest only his ';painting'; will sell 5 to a person.
Yes, it's entirely normal to have career goals at the age of 15.
It could just be to meet girls.

Maybe I am wrong, but I believe this forum is about children with special needs and those wishing to learn things about it-special education. I don't think doing someones nails has anything to do with it. Sorry wrong forum.A good school to become a nail technician? i live in Southern California.?

  • I am looking for a good nail salon or technician in Brighton & Hove.?

I am willing to travel or have someone visit as long as they are good. I have just moved to the area %26amp; would be grateful for some recommendations. ThanksI am looking for a good nail salon or technician in Brighton %26amp; Hove.?
There are several on London road. In do not know any names, however I have a friend who frequents them all, and would, and has, recommended them in the past.

If you need to find some, the Yellow pages is a good option.

    Best of luck.

As a nail technician, is it harmful for me to breath in gel nail dust ?

Yes, that is why every nail technician I've ever been too has worn a mask.

Im looking for good insurance for myself as im an mobile nail technician any suggestions thx?

You should have Public Liability insurance to cover yourself against injury to third parties %26amp; third party property damage during the course of your work.

If you have no employees (therefore do not need employers liability cover as an extension) you should not pay more than 拢70-拢90 for 拢1,000,000 Public Liability cover.

This is the minimum insurance cover you will require.

As you are self employed you may want to consider a 'Personal accident and Sickness' policy to give you some protection against loss of income for injuries or long periods of illness that prevent you from carrying out your work.

I would advise you speak to an insurance broker rather than use 'niche' search engines or the like. Searh engines do not give you any advice %26amp; you obviously feel you need advice otherwise you would not post a question here.

I can help you with the cover you need if you like- www.gothicinsurance.com - or go to your own local brokerIm looking for good insurance for myself as im an mobile nail technician any suggestions thx?
Small business insurance can be a tough one, your best bet is to try a niche search engine like http://www.seekcoverage.comIm looking for good insurance for myself as im an mobile nail technician any suggestions thx?
What type of insurance, (Health, Life, Liability, etc?) Which state? Each state is governed by different insurance regulations.

How do you go about becoming a nail technician?

The local vo-tech schools may offer a program to become a n nail tech. They are usually a lot more affordable than those private beauty schools. If there is a vo-tech school nearby, I would look into that one provided that it's accredited within the industry.

For more general info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'cosmetologists and barbers' or such. How do you go about becoming a nail technician?
Cosmetology Schools usually have Day/Night, Full time or Part time Classes. The hours for Nail Techs are alot shorter than Cosmetology(They're usually between 200-600 hours.), Then you go to Boards, which is basically a final exam, After boards you then can get your license. How do you go about becoming a nail technician?
there are beauty schools they cost about 400 to 1000 dollars and most have night classes

hi im soon going to rent a room out in salon to do nail treatments in and work for myself can anyone advise me on how much the liability insurance will cost me??How much for liability insurance for a nail technician?
Not a lot is the answer! It really depends though on whether you are on the road or working from a salon - Do you own the salon and require buildings / contents cover as well as business liability insurance? Do you employ people - If you do you need employers liability insurance.

  • Do nail technician make good money I was thinking of getting trained up to become a mobile tech? thanks?

you can get about 拢30 for everyone you do.Do nail technician make good money I was thinking of getting trained up to become a mobile tech? thanks?
Nah, I've had two friends who went for school to do that, they don't make enough. In fact, one of them doesn't do it anymore and the other just does hair now. You have to be very lucky to land a spot in a good salon that has a good reputation. It's not something people make a good living on. I mean, you never hear about it as a good paying gig right? Don't forget you gotta pay booth rent, and buy equipment.....Do nail technician make good money I was thinking of getting trained up to become a mobile tech? thanks?
hi i am a qualified therapist and i do not think you do make much money out of it. It would be ok as a part time job to earn money along side another job but the costs of materials for false nails are high. If you was thinkin of doing a nail tech course i would highly recommend Alan Roy nail school if there is one near you as you can be trained in a week an intensive course and it is alot cheaper than going to college. I paid to do it at college and it cost a fortune and took months i then done the same course at alan roy to refresh myself and it was the same

    hope this helps
Nail techs only make good money if they can work in a high-end salon with a large client猫le. After graduating any sort of cosmetology type school, you're basically making like $6.00/hr until your 5th year in the industry.

And, it's against the law to be a mobile tech. How do I know? I posted an ad on Craigslist for a mobile nail tech and got bombarded with emails saying that I was breaking the law requesting for a mobile nail tech, and the nail tech them self would be as well. But, if you want to try it out, do it! I wanted to do it, but I was told that being a nail tech usually means that you hardly ever get your own nails done, that did it for me. No more nail tech dreams. :-D

How does anatomy relate to the nail technician industry?

Without a thorough understanding of bones, nerves, skin and it's components or layers you can do real damage to someone's hand. And besides, being overly educated has never been a problem

Is a Nail Technician up here to help with with my nails?

i need someone to help me with my nails please cause im tried everything and im getting so sick of post questions up here about this i just want them to grow already cause im leaving in 1 week!!!!Is a Nail Technician up here to help with with my nails?
and your question is?? to make then grow? Maybe the topical nail polish that keeps them hard? Maybe acrylic nails? Maybe drink more milk for calcium to make them grow? It's a tough question but i wish you luckIs a Nail Technician up here to help with with my nails?
drink lots of milk and always push your cuticles back daily And maybe even trying a nail polish that grows your nails.
I'm guessing you are talking about growing them out, and if you want your natural nails to grow out, keep pushing back your cuticles. It stimulates your nails to grow. They may not grow an inch or anything like that overnight, but it'll help.

Your other option would be artificial nails, like acrylics or gel nails. However, if you do that, I would not recommend getting them too long, but maybe a half inch longer maximum to start with. If you go too long, you likely won't account for them when you go about your daily routine and you might hit them on something and possibly cause one to lift, which can hurt.

    That's my advice anyway
You mean how can you get the to grow faster????? Won't happen.

How can you have longer nails instantly? Get acrylic or gel nails applied. I prefer gel myself, but acrylic is strongest.

To keep them from breaking, apply 'Nail Envy' from OPI every day for six days. On the seventh day, clean them off with nail polish remover and start again. Keep moisturizer on hand at all times, like the kind from OPI (not from Walmart-Pulleeaze!) so your nails don't dry out and become brittle.

Visit an esthetician/salon to ask for help.

    Good luck!
ok to start with if you get them professionally done stop! because if they are waeak already they will be much more weakened from acryllic gel isnt as bad but if you work with ur hands alot gel isnt as tough get sally hansen's nail growth and strengthener nail polish(in a gold bottle with gold brush)it really works my nails are also dry and weak and brittle this stuff is a wonder!!! under 5 dollars

Has anyone done long distance learning to become a nail technician? or anyone have any info?

My daughter in law has just completed a Beauty Consultant course.

Nail technology was part of that course.

It required a great deal of practical tuition, which could not be given through distance learning.

I would venture to suggest that any such distance learning course would be seriously deficient in practical competence.Has anyone done long distance learning to become a nail technician? or anyone have any info?
Where abouts in the country are you based? The nail academy offers 3 day nail tech courses (which cover everything) or 1 day acrylic courses (which covers acrylic nials). They are based in the North but she will travel to come to you. Prices start at 拢200. call 01482 877269 for details.Has anyone done long distance learning to become a nail technician? or anyone have any info?
I teach many complementary therapies. Some of them like Nutrition and Chinese medical theory are just that theory and do not need any practical, but aromatherapy, beauty, hairdressing [OK I put that in but is not complementary] and aromatherapy and so on do include a practical element. In using the theory you also prove competence of theory and practical. It most certainly cannot be done without a practical and anyone saying they can teach this are wrong as far as I am concerned.

  • When a technician repairs a nail inside a tire, do they take the nail out or push it inside the tire?

i just had a nail taken out of my tire. when i was watching the tech do it, it looked like he cut off the top part of the nail to the tire (by accident maybe) and stuck a piece of metal inside where the nail went to push the remainder of the nail back inside the tire. is this normal procedure if the top part of the nail was cut off accidentally when trying to pull it out? When a technician repairs a nail inside a tire, do they take the nail out or push it inside the tire?
That's a quick and dirty fix. Some shops will do this to avoid having to dismount the tire, remove the nail properly, and remount it. IT should NEVER be done that way!!! Having a nail floating around inside the tire can damage the tire, leading to failure, i.e., blowout.

I don't see any way to ';accidentally'; cut off the top of a nail. It takes some serious effort.

Sounds like you witnessed a bad repair job. When a technician repairs a nail inside a tire, do they take the nail out or push it inside the tire?
I've only known that to be done when a ';plug'; is used to patch the nail hole.

This is no longer legal to my knowledge. I've been advised that a boot must be used and adhered to the inside wall.

    My last experience.

    US here.
nope, he surely removed it. and what you saw maybe a piece of rubber (somehow looks like a metal), use by technician to block the hole then he will cut off the excess.

i am looking for courses to do at home as i have a young son i have been on open study college but they have just called me up and wanted some money. what courses if any did you get your qualifications from or what is the best at home learning site there is alot of fakesIm looking for best at home nail technician course online please read?
Your best bet is to enroll in an accredited nail training program. These are not offered online or at home. You will need hands on practical experience in order to get your license and begin working - legally, that is. You don't get this kind of experience from a book. I can understand if your situation won't permit you to attend nail school, but most offer both full and part time programs. Would it be possible to attend a few evenings a week? If so, there you have it.Check around your area and see what is offered. Maybe you could find a program that you would be able to attend? But, I would avoid any home training nail programs. Just my opinion.Im looking for best at home nail technician course online please read?
Most likely there isn't one since there is a lot of things that they need to test you on, like proper cleaning of tools and making sure that you know what you're doing. The sorts of things they'd need to see you do, you can't just prove that you can answer some questions online.

Can i attend beauty school for training as a nail technician and go to a regular college like CU Boulder?

Sure! As long as you have the ambition, drive, time and energy to go to full-time school and cosmetology school as well, it's certainly possible. Lots of cosmetology schools offer evening and weekend classes that are flexible with your full-time schooling.

The benefit of nail technology training is that is a pretty fast, affordable program. You can be in action as a licensed nail technician in Colorado in no time. It looks like the Colorado state cosmetology licensing board requires 600 hours (20 credits) to become a manicurist.

The first link below has a comprehensive list of beauty/cosmetology schools in Boulder. The second one is a list of schools that specifically offer nail technology programs in Colorado.

first interview in this line of work, really nervous.!!Can anyone give me some tips on goin for interview as nail technician, what kind of questions to expect, etc.?
I would worry more about the state of your own nails at the interview and whether or not you did them yourself. Also about your qualifications, any specialized school you have attended or were your experience in this field comes from.

Does anyone know of a downloadable or e-learning Nail Technician Course?

Avoid this type of program if you wish to become licensed in any state. You need classroom hours and online training does not count toward those hours.

Is it easy for a young white female to get at job on oahu as a nail technician or a job in public relations?

thinking about moving back to oahu, i was just wondering would it be difficult to get a job as a nail tech. or a job in public relations? im a white female, i know some of the locals aren't very fond of us ';hoales'; lol. just wondering about this..Is it easy for a young white female to get at job on oahu as a nail technician or a job in public relations?
If you have the experience or degrees in PR, I would start there. Caucasians make up about 20% of the population %26amp; just like everyone, we've gotta work. If you don't make a big deal out of ethnicity, it is unlikely to get in your way. But almost all of the nail salons here are owned %26amp; operated by Vietnamese %26amp; I think you could have a hard time finding employment in that industry on Oahu.

Let me explain that the reason I think you might have trouble finding work in a nail salon is that most of them are small mom %26amp; pop places, where it feels like the staff is family. Now that may not be the case all over, but at least in the places that I have gone for a pedicure, that is how it seems. Is it easy for a young white female to get at job on oahu as a nail technician or a job in public relations?
I'm white never had a problem getting a job. Rode the bus to work each day and was the only white person on there. Didn't have any problems again. As long as you are respectful to everyone you talk to and don't judge then you will be fine.
Your being haole has NOTHING to do with you being able to get a job. If you get a job it's because you have the qualities that a company is looking for not because of the color of your skin.

I wish you luck in finding a job here in Hawaii. With one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, EVERY job is competitive.

Did the nail technician mess up my nails on purpose?

i got my nails done a week ago and the acrylic looks like its coming off like when u put those press on nails on and they start coming off u can see the glue coming off underneath. it looks like that. he new i was irratated because i had to wait 45 min. ive had my nails done a million times and this has never happenedDid the nail technician mess up my nails on purpose?
By your description, it sounds to me like you went to a discount salon. These are the places that generally charge like $25 or less for a full set - no appointment needed, and a huge language barrier. These are usually the worst places to go to have your nails done for many reasons. I'm not going to sit here and list them all, but let me tell you that they are usually untrained, unskilled, and often unlicensed as well. They are the ones who will most often ruin your natural nails by overfiling them with a Dremel drill and a sanding band. These are NOT for use on nails. They were designed for use in woodworking and other hobbies. In fact, a few states, including Texas have outlawed this type of drill for use on nails because it is harmful to them. Avoid these types of salons. Make an appointment at a reputable salon with an experienced, and highly skilled nail tech and you will not have any of these problems, ever. Also, you won't have to wait for any length of time because you have an appointment, and good nail techs pride themselves on being on time with clients of theirs. I know that I always do...Did the nail technician mess up my nails on purpose?
    i don't know lol

You should talk to the manager if this ever happens again. :)
I would say he just didn't know what he was doing. The nails weren't prepped properly and he could have been using inferior product.
    a question to ask...

why would the nail tech mess your nails up??

the powder for the acrylic might

    have been messed up....i would

go in asap and show the nail tech

she needs to know....it could have happened

    to another of her clients....

if you dont want to do that talk to the owner

    of the salon...

i have had something similar and

    it was done over...
Not sure that the person did it on purpose but in my experience, different people have different techniques. Some glop the glue on, others barely put enough, some do a sloppy job, and so on. I would have brought it to the manager's attention that very day. Best thing I can tell you is to not go to him again.

Is it appropriate to wear nail polish as a pharmacy technician?

Any kind of pharmacy technician (nuclear, hopsital, retail, mail order, etc). Is clear nail polish even allowed if you're compounding? I know fake nails would not be appropriate but what about nail polish?

My nails get really brittle and start to crack before they can even get as long as I want them to. Lotion just isn't cutting it now.Is it appropriate to wear nail polish as a pharmacy technician?
I don't see why clear nail polish would be a problem. No one could see it anyway! Is it appropriate to wear nail polish as a pharmacy technician?
as long as its like dry and doesnt chip into the medicine or anything,, i dont see what would be wrong with that.

Im a nail technician, and have been offered too rent a table in a salon help !?

iv been offered to rent the table for 拢25 per day, iv got it for 2 days so thats 50 quid a week, i havent got a client base yet ? shall i do it and wait too build one up or what ?? help confused xIm a nail technician, and have been offered too rent a table in a salon help !?
    Hi,

I'm an ex nail technician and was self employed for 4 yrs renting space in salons......

I'm in Australia so i had a look at some websites of Nail Salons in the UK and you can make around 50/60 pounds for Full Sets and around 25/30 pounds for refills. The salons are changing between 25 to 30 pounds just for a french manicure!

You can easily charge 35 pounds for refills.

If you only need one client to cover each day then go for it....... Just plan how you're going to advertise and use the existing clientele in the salon to pick up business.

Make sure you have a written contract to protect yourself and that stipulates the exact amount of rent you'll be paying and the time frame that that rate stands for.

Coming from experience, people seem to change rules and conditions when they realise how much money you're making so make sure you're covered so they can't just up the rent on you when you start getting busy and making a good income.

Definitely go for it, you will learn a lot from the experience.

My moto now having had so much experience with running a business is ';Nothing Personal, Strictly Business';. Rememeber that, it will help you think more business like.

    Good luck and enjoy yourself!

    Remember Nothing ventured, Nothing gained.

Chi Chi x.Im a nail technician, and have been offered too rent a table in a salon help !?
This might be of help to you, or it might not ... but I am just 'recovering' from a similar opportunity but it was a kitchen in a pub and this is what I've learnt ... make sure the staff are friendly and treat all customers with respect, make sure there are no immediate plans to sell the salon because it will affect you and do some sort of advertising before you start, it is an expense I'm sure you could do without but it will be worth it in the long run. Go for it and good luck!!!
make sure your service is well advertised first and go for it, you'd only need 3/4 clients, so you cant really lose.

    good luck
take the table but print up some fliers and stick them through doors and ask the receptionist to give a flier to clients when they pay. clients at the salon will use your services too. good luck
Take the table! U can charge 拢25 for nail ectensions and thats one day paid with one client plus being in a salon gets u business. People decide to get both their hair done and their nails
Un eed to build a client base uo so then you know you will be getting the money u spend on rentin the chair back unless u can afford to do that for aw hile and see how it goes.
wait until you build up a base. then you will be glad you did.
You need to know if the salon has a large enough client base to support you. Make sure that they are going to let their clients know that a new technician is coming on board (at least two to three months before you make the move) and find out what the feed back is. Good luck.
build your clientell up free of charge 1st then pay when you start getting paid. the salon should be glad of having extra customers coming in there salon. im sure they could let you use the table for a while until you build your customers up.
Presumably you will also need to supply your own stock, etc. this should all be added into your expenditure.

Will you be the only person there doing nails or will you be in competition with others?

You say you don't have a client base yet, how much experience do you have?

    Is the salon itself busy?

Is it in an area where there will be a demand for this treatment?

What sort of price can you charge there?

Are you good at self promotion and self motivated?

I know this is a lot of questions, but these are the things you need to clarify first.

    Good luck.
Check with this salon to see if they can help you build up your clients they usually would have their own clients but would have walk in's also..

I would say it is worth def for 拢25 a day anyway that's really good.

Do you need a high school diploma/ged to go to school to become a nail technician?

Not required for a few places, but many doDo you need a high school diploma/ged to go to school to become a nail technician?
    YES

and even if the answer is no.... YES

get your Diploma... just in general you will feel better about yourself, and other will respect you more. Just get it.Do you need a high school diploma/ged to go to school to become a nail technician?
It depends on the state. Some states allow you to take a test of a sort to enter without a GED or HS. Diploma...But in most states, Yes, You do have to have a GED or HS. Diploma.
No. If your in high school now, almost all areas have affiliations with beauty colleges and you can go for free, and get credits too! Only pay for the kit!

If its beyond that time frame in your life, no you dont need a diploma. Why not consider getting your GED though, it looks better to employers, that you can make a committment and stick it out.No diploma or GED makes someone seem like a quitter or lazy or not responsible. Not trying to be rude at all, I just know thats how employers view someone, and believe me, it will matter in life many times over. NO matter how smart someone is, the lil box on applications means something, although lots of stupid people graduate right!!!

There is so much book work when taking cosmotology you wont believe it! Hours a day each day is working and reading in the lessons, for a few months, and then you have to pass the book exam and the observations of you performing things during your exam too, so study good, its not as easy as it looks, but it is easy and alot of fun. I took it but quit, I have no natural talent for fashion at all, but I did love going to that school and it was free in high school for me!!

What damage could you as a nail technician do if you didnt understand anatomy on the hands and feet?

im in urgent need of some helpWhat damage could you as a nail technician do if you didnt understand anatomy on the hands and feet?
if you did a proper course as a nail tech you should of been advised all of this. I did a hair and beauty course a while ago and althought i didn't complete it the first thing we were taugh was when not to do a procedure on a client. Contra-indications!!!!!! there's aload of them. What damage could you as a nail technician do if you didnt understand anatomy on the hands and feet?
You could stain the color of someone's nails...pemanently (it's not that hard to do..I almost did it once myself). Or screw up the orthopedics of someones hands (ie. by using specific nail shapes/sizes that just never work). The infection thing is also true.

Apart from that though, you'd just be a bad nail technician.

You could confuse someone's hands for their feet?
Dont put too much faith in these courses, i make A LOT of money at home doing it on the side with all the proper equipment, and i dont know anything about the anatomy. Good Luck Chick!
Extreme laceration? It depends on how mentally stable the nail technician is.
You could induce a fungal nail infection if, say, you put acrylics on a wet nail bed.

  • What do I need to do to become a nail technician?

Phone up your local colleges and ask for a prospectus and see if they do a beauty or nail course. Most of the colleges should do an adult learners course in the evening, if you work full time. You should get a qualification for these courses, but check with your local college and see.

After you have a qualification the world is your oyster! Good luckWhat do I need to do to become a nail technician?
people with nailsWhat do I need to do to become a nail technician?
    a jack hammer
I would want my nail technician to have taken a course over a period of time, and to have something to prove she/he knows what she/he is doing.

    Good luck!
You can do a night course over a 6 month period but if you want to work in a beauticians maybe you should go to beauty school a learn everything .
let me guess, you have straight blonde hair, fake st.tropez tan, jeans that show your stretchmark belly, you live with your mummy, you have a boyfriend who has a fiesta and you live on a council estate. Right? I bet a few of those things are. The place where I live is full of people like that. Your question just reminded me that's all. Answer to your question, do a one day's course and already you'll be qualified. *lol* A deeply meaningful career.
It may depend on in which state you live. Some require a license, but you will need to go to school to learn the techniques, either way.
    Go to beauty school.
You must be aware that different jobs require different types of nails - I'd say the MINIMUM you need is a good hammer and a selection of nails.
    A claw hammer
    Hands and eyes!
Go to either a technical school or a cosmetology college. Check out the various ones in your area as the prices may greatly vary. You may be able to get grants too. Ask students what they think of the schools, they are very honest about the education they are getting. You could also do an apprenticeship at a nail salon if the owner is licensed to teach you. Sometimes, they will just be in it for the $ they'd be making off of you, so you have to be careful of that. Good luck.
It can be done in less than a year. Some people need to work through Cosmetology school so they take the two year course. I would just get it done in a year. Buckle down and go to school and work. Lot's of girls did it when I was in Coz school. Every state is different in their requirements for being a nail tech. In Michigan, you have to go to Cosmetology school. Pass. Pay for and take a state board exam (written and practical). Pass that and then pay and apply for your licence.

It sounds harder than it is.
    go to cosmetology school.
    Don't bite them!
you have to go and do a Manicure course then from then you can take alot of different courses of nail extensions, nail art things like that you get silk and fiberglass nails which i am trained in also gel, Acyrlic, Sulpture ect go to you nearest college which does beauty they usally hold night courses.
I've got an ebook you can have.

Nail technician? hahahaha, the job titles you can get now........

Is that the same as a manicurist? I expect you have to go to college because surely you have to do practicing on nails and someone has to watch you to assess how well you are doing it.

What's so bad about college anyway?

does anyone know if a nail technician makes good money and if anyone likes dong it as a career or part time job im goin to school to become a nail technician any advise would help thanksDoes anyone know if a nail technician makes good money?
no they dont. on average in the US, they make between 10,000 and 25,000 full time a year. which is not enough.

i would reccomend you look into a differant career.

if you are looking into a 2 year degree, the best two fields to get into right now are assistant nurse and assistant dentist.Does anyone know if a nail technician makes good money?
    yes they do.

My boss' sister and law does it for a living. He says she makes about 2k a week. Including tips. If you work at a nice nail salon, you should expect a good amount of money flowing in :)
i made a 1000$ in two weeks at my family nail salon %26amp; and thats without adding the tips. i didnt liked the job itself, i just did for the money.

Hi ive not long had a baby and would love to train as a nail technician at home. Its difficult to get college?

iv seen lots companys with trainee packs for home but they cost a fortune. has anybody done this before and no any cheap courses thanxHi ive not long had a baby and would love to train as a nail technician at home. Its difficult to get college?
If you want to go to college they do have creches in some and if you are on a low income sometimes you can get the course free. Look in your library for info on college coursesHi ive not long had a baby and would love to train as a nail technician at home. Its difficult to get college?
Go to your local family learning centre, (if there is one) there is one near me. It offers free creche facilities and your course is free if you live in the area. They have lots of courses to choose from on different subjects. Check out see if there is one in your area. Congrats and good luck x
there are scholarships available for highly qualified students in the nail technology industry. Suggest you Google them.

Also, the food services industry is looking for people like you.
Don't know about home training pack, but my local college has loads of evening courses you can take for that type of thing. Everything, from just taking something up as a hobby to actually taking the official certificate in something. If you want a proper qualification (which you will need if you want to get a decent job in the industry), it's going to cost you more, as the exams cost money.

Your local college should have a part time/mature student prospectus, which might be available online (with costs).

The best thing to do is go to their open evening (which should be in the next few months) and speak to someone about what you want to do etc.

Another good place to go is www.learndirect.co.uk, which can give advice about careers. Their call centre staff are helpful and well trained.
hi, my daughter is just ove 13 mnths now, i started my nail tech course wen she was 6 mnths old. i did a night course just one evening a week. it only cost about 150 quid and it was well worth it, it lasted 17 weeks and now im fully qualified. get a part time prospectus from your nearest college and see wat they have to offer.

I want to do some Nail Technician Courses, any ideas??

I want to do the courses also Manicure %26amp; Pedicure while I'm still in my current job, I would prefernot to home learn although this looks like a possibility at the mo. Also they are very very expensive??

I live in Fakenham, Norfolk UK can someone help me plese??I want to do some Nail Technician Courses, any ideas??
Okay, Im not in the Uk, but am hoping to do the same as you, soon.. Look into Beauty Colleges, in or around your area, they should hopefully offer part-time courses, that you can do at night, a couple nights per week, for how ever long the duration of the course is... Good Luck to you...

That's good to know that you're venturing out into another field. Why not try to enroll on nail technician courses such as cosmetology? Then if you graduated, you can start posting your services online as well and get clients. There's a lot of online websites such as www.servicedfw.com that allows service providers like nail technicians to post their profiles and look for potential clients. Good Luck!
yes you need to do 2yrs beauty therapy course then you will have more options, you can do a year nail technician course or massage, there are a few things you can do after beauty therapy course, i wanted to do that after my beauty ther course but i fell pregnant, any collage an your area will give you information. good luck!
There are specific courses you need to take, both in technique as well as health code regulations. Then you will need to pass a health department test before you can get your certificate.

It's a great portable skill, good luck!

What is certified nail technician? Do I need to go to college? How long? Is on line course enough?

Certified nail technicians are licensed to provide manicures, pedicures, coloring, and extensions. With all the advances in artificial nail products and the chemistry of nails that are needed. You do need to attend to some kind of college or Prep School for that specific career, depending on the college it can take a minimum of six months or up to 1-2 years. To get the nail technician certification you usually need a certain amount of hours on the job without a pay- the hours depend on the state that you are living in. I do believe that there are courses that you can take online for that career.

Is there somewhere I can take the courses entirely online?Become a nail technician online?
Sorry, you can't do it online. It requires ';hands on'; training. Check your local community college.

Where can you take nail technician courses online?

I don't think you can. To be a nail tech you must take a written and practical exam by the state board so I'm not sure you can do that on line. SorryWhere can you take nail technician courses online?
I don't think you can. Most states have sanitation laws surrounding manicures, and you have to take the exam after graduating from beauty school.

If you have healthy nails why are you getting fake ones? What to ask the nail technician?
No, Getting fake nails don't hurt. But if you want to keep your nails healthy, Don't get Acrylic or Gel.
It does not hurt, and you should get arylic, I have never even heard solar. So sorry I can't help you with the difference between them but really it does not hurt though. Just ask them to do your nails. Unless you want a design or something on your nails.

What site can i use to, help me find a Nail Technician that is needed for my Beauty Salon?

You can use monster and create an account as an employer, but I find the newspaper works the best. You can just put in an ad, it's not expensive, and you will find more people in your area.

When looking for a job, most people check the newspaper still.

What is the best way to start a nail salon? I am already in nail technician classes.?

First of all start with your family and friends. Then get a place to begin to do the nails, of course there will be expansion when all of the $$$ starts rolling in. Place advertisements in the local newspapers. If you are near a college campus, purchase an ad, it may even be cheaper. Pass out business cards. There are free ones on certain websites. Depending on the size of the city you live in, you may want to pass out flyers--not mail them, this is another word for junk mail. All of this is low to no cost.

  • What is the proper percentage to tip a nail technician? A hair stylist?

Well, you see it really depends where you live, and where the shop is located. I know that personally that it varies in cities and states. If you are going to the typical asian nail and hair salons, usually the right tips that they should receive would be from five to ten dollars. Depending on who you are, if you are a daily customer, they would tip their person a little more. On the other hand if you are going to a spa salon owned by a company, or Caucasian people, you would tip them a bit, or a lot more. I personally know a bit more because I have family members that works at nail and hair salons. I hope that I helped you!

Btw, the yahooer on top of me is also very correct about the facts that she told you. They don't actually get the whole pay you give them. Like if you had a thirty dollar Mani, they would probably only get about 17 dollars or somewhat. So, when people tip them with a larger amount, like ten dollars, they really appreciate it. As the yahooer said, most of the people working are immigrants. Though they are very dedicated and hard working. What is the proper percentage to tip a nail technician? A hair stylist?
I tip 20 to 30% because they are usually immigrants here on work visas. Once I had a $115 mani and pedi and after everything was deducted the person only got $30 from this. I felt bad so after I did the math I gave them a big tip. What is the proper percentage to tip a nail technician? A hair stylist?
nail stylest about 5. hair stylest about 5-10
    $10+ ??

How much does it cost to go to school to become a nail technician?

Depends on the school...All cosmetology schools are different, with different prices...But it won't be cheap....Find a School you are intreseted in, and find out how much the school is...and make sure it's accredited, or else they won't take financial aid.

    How do I get started?

    What is the tuition normally?

I would like something not so expensive and short... if possible.

    Also any tips ...

    thanks in advance!!!Nail Technician????
Check at your community college first. Since you have a child, you should be able to get finanical aid. If your community college doesn't offer it, then look into private vocational schools. The prices will vary by school.

Around here the private schools cost about $1500 for an 8 week course to be a nail tech.

Remember that ';cheap and quick'; might not be the best. Once you start your career as a nail tech, you will want to have the best education behind you.

  • What did this nail technician do?

I saw a nail technician who buffed my nails, which were a bit yellow. They were instantly white. She then put an oil on. Even after using nail polish and polish remover the sheen from the oil remained. My questions are: are there different types of buffers? If so which one did she likely use? Will it weaken my nails in the long term? Would the sheen from the oil last without buffing? Are there different types of oils? Which did she likely use? Sorry there are so many questions. What did this nail technician do?
The sheen is from the buffing. You should only buff your nails once a week. They were probably yellow from being polished all the time. Go to Sally's and ask for a good nail buffer and oil! What did this nail technician do?
it will make the nail weaker thats why when you take them off your natural nail is long but very thin =[ i cant really answer your other questions i have ideas about them though

How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?

Every couple of weeks I go to the nail salon and have a pedicure and have either a refill or a new set of nails put on (I use pearl tips and pearl refills are horrible so once a month I remove my set and have a new one put on). I always ask for the same technician as she really does a great job. My bill comes to around $50 and I leave a 20% tip. I always pay by credit card and add the tip. I always put the technician's name at the top of the CC receipt so that the owner knows who the tip belongs to. I know that she will have to pay taxes on the tip, but that's only fair (I have to pay taxes on my salary and bonuses). My concern is that she won't get her tip. Can someone please tell me how this works? How can I be sure she's getting what's hers? I have been tempted to ask her, but I think that is really crass. How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?
Ask her. She will be happy that you are concerned for her.

    Or -- why don't you just take $10 cash and hand it to her and say thanks? If you think it looks tacky to hand someone cash, wrap it in a little piece of memo-paper reading ';Thanks, from Sally.';

Trust me, i've been in jobs where you get tips, and it is very nice to know that the people are actually grateful for your good work. How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?
walk over and hand it to her. If it is on your charge . then ask for the cash , and then walk over and hand it to her.
Give it to her directly in cash.
The only way you can be sure is to give her cash in person.
Just give her cash - stop at the ATM, if necessary. I never trust credit card tips, either.
    TIP HER DIRECTLY IN CASH
A lot of women give a cash tip in advance of getting the work done, especially if the regular technician is doing the job. You already know she will do a great job, so there should be no problem tipping in advance. I usually pay in advance so that I don't risk messing up my nails afterwards. A lot of technicians often ask to be paid upfront for this reason,

Thinking of training as a nail technician - need advice?

Im thinking of taking a two day course in gel and acrylic nail extensions and was wondering if anyone does this for a living and do they find it a success?

In other words do you think it will be worth my while?Thinking of training as a nail technician - need advice?
Unfortunately, a two day course will not prepare you to be a nail technician. The actual requirements vary from state to state, but most states require several hundred hours worth of training before you can qualify to take the state boards, and become licensed as a nail professional. Generally, you can complete a nail education program in about six months.

But if you want to do nails for a living, don't let that fact discourage you in the least bit! Here is a link to a website with detailed information regarding education, and license requirements for each state:

    http://www.nailsmag.com/pdfs/handouts/NA…

Also, I found this site to be somewhat helpful for locating a nail program in your area. It will give you the names, addresses, and phone numbers of different schools in your area, but not much else. But it is a good place to start!

    http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/

For me, doing nails is very rewarding because I love what I do. Whether it will be worth your while or not is up to you. Attending a nail training program is only the first step. Once you get out of school, the rest is up to you. I won't lie to you - its tough for a 'newbie' in this field. It takes a while to get a steady flow of regular customers. And the hours can be long. Don't forget, the hours you work are going to be when most women have the time available to get their nails done. This means weekends, nights, and some holidays too. It is not a Monday-Friday, 9-5 job. I mean, it could be if thats what you want. But if you want to go anywhere in this field, you have to work at the convenience of your clients, and not yours.

But even with all that, I personally wouldn't give up my job in the nail industry for anything else. And many other techs also feel the same way about it.

I hope this helps!Thinking of training as a nail technician - need advice?
of course it would be worthwhile..as for training why not get in touch with your local college and see what they have to offer in their ''hair and beauty'' courses or the appropriate department whatever it maybe named..and if it is a dream of yours then the only way to make it a reality is to get as much info on courses as you can ..good luck with it
it seems everyone is doing this now caz so while i wouldnt put you off doing i would try and think of some thing else you might like aswell as a fall back option goodluck
    Hey Hunny_X

Yeah It Is A Success But It Would Be Best For You To Go To Your Local College %26amp; Do It There.Maybe You Should Consider Doing ';Hair %26amp; Beauty'; As Nails Come Into That Anyway.ツ

GoodLuck...Was It A College Course Or A Home College Course Your Planning On Doing.
There are so many asian women in England at the moment that do nails for about £15-20 I wouldn't bother- even I don't bother with the English places as all the girls do there is talk about east enders instead of concentrating on my nails. Train to do something that will get you somewhere in life

Im studying to be a nail technician does anyone know if the anatomy is important?

Very important. There are pressure points in the feet, hands and wrists that could lead to extended numbing or paralysis if pressed upon in the wrong way or for extended periods of time. You also need to know a great deal about where and how the blood vessels function in the hand and foot areas where skin is very delicate and vascular. You should take the anatomy portion of your education very seriously.Im studying to be a nail technician does anyone know if the anatomy is important?
    YES YES YES PLEASE !!

to understand why removing the cuticle destroys the nail.Im studying to be a nail technician does anyone know if the anatomy is important?
If you want to be a good nail tech then listen to everything your instructor tells you It is all important. The people that don't listen are the ones that make our state boards so strict. Please do everyone a favor and learn everything as if it was the most important. Anatomy is very important, not just the nail plate and the nail bed and surrounding tissues but bones and nerves and muscles. VERY VERY VERY important so learn it well.

You can do something like a beauty therapy course, most colleges offer them and you don't need loads of GCSEs to do them. It'll give you an insight into many aspects in the beauty industry and you can specialise in more than one subject (like hair and nails or nails and make-up) which will make you more employable.

Which would be a better career to go to beauty school for: A nail technician or an esthetician?

I am really interested in both but can't decide which one would be better and I don't really want to go through a cosmetology program where they teach you hair too I'm not really interested in that so I have to decide which one would be better out of those two. Any help please? :)Which would be a better career to go to beauty school for: A nail technician or an esthetician?
I'm doing aesthetics program and I really like it. I was thinking about nail tech too but I think this field is a little more diverse. You move to different parts of the body: Hand %26amp; feet with reflexology, face for facials, legs arms and eyebrows for waxing. Aesthetics really give people time to relax and leave there problems at the door. I would try it first andafter you finish that program and you still feel a passion for nail tech, go for it. alot of salon and spas like diverse practicioners. That's more money for you. Plus cosmotolegy doesn't go into enough detail as the exactual program does. They just lightly skim those areas even though legally they can preform nail tech and esthetician acts. Good Luck!Which would be a better career to go to beauty school for: A nail technician or an esthetician?
What is it that YOU want to do? Do you want to do nails, Acrylic, Gel, Manicuring, Pedicuring? Or do you want to do Facials, waxing, and make up? You can earn as much money in either career, But if you choose one that you end up really not liking, It'll pretty much suck for you, 'cause your stuck with that unless you want to dish out the money for a Esthetics course.

Why don't you just do Cosmetology? Yeah, It involves hair, But after you graduate school, You don't even have to do hair. You can do Nails and Skin. You may even find that you enjoy doing hair..
