The local vo-tech schools may offer a program to become a n nail tech. They are usually a lot more affordable than those private beauty schools. If there is a vo-tech school nearby, I would look into that one provided that it's accredited within the industry.

Nah, I've had two friends who went for school to do that, they don't make enough. In fact, one of them doesn't do it anymore and the other just does hair now. You have to be very lucky to land a spot in a good salon that has a good reputation. It's not something people make a good living on. I mean, you never hear about it as a good paying gig right? hi i am a qualified therapist and i do not think you do make much money out of it. It would be ok as a part time job to earn money along side another job but the costs of materials for false nails are high. If you was thinkin of doing a nail tech course i would highly recommend Alan Roy nail school if there is one near you as you can be trained in a week an intensive course and it is alot cheaper than going to college. I paid to do it at college and it cost a fortune and took months i then done the same course at alan roy to refresh myself and it was the same

No more nail tech dreams. :-D

I'm guessing you are talking about growing them out, and if you want your natural nails to grow out, keep pushing back your cuticles. It stimulates your nails to grow. They may not grow an inch or anything like that overnight, but it'll help.
Your other option would be artificial nails, like acrylics or gel nails. However, if you do that, I would not recommend getting them too long, but maybe a half inch longer maximum to start with. If you go too long, you likely won't account for them when you go about your daily routine and you might hit them on something and possibly cause one to lift, which can hurt.

Visit an esthetician/salon to ask for help.

ok to start with if you get them professionally done stop! because if they are waeak already they will be much more weakened from acryllic gel isnt as bad but if you work with ur hands alot gel isnt as tough get sally hansen's nail growth and strengthener nail polish(in a gold bottle with gold brush)it really works my nails are also dry and weak and brittle this stuff is a wonder!!! under 5 dollars

It required a great deal of practical tuition, which could not be given through distance learning.

In using the theory you also prove competence of theory and practical. It most certainly cannot be done without a practical and anyone saying they can teach this are wrong as far as I am concerned.

When a technician repairs a nail inside a tire, do they take the nail out or push it inside the tire?
i just had a nail taken out of my tire. when i was watching the tech do it, it looked like he cut off the top part of the nail to the tire (by accident maybe) and stuck a piece of metal inside where the nail went to push the remainder of the nail back inside the tire. is this normal procedure if the top part of the nail was cut off accidentally when trying to pull it out?When a technician repairs a nail inside a tire, do they take the nail out or push it inside the tire?

If you have the experience or degrees in PR, I would start there. Caucasians make up about 20% of the population %26amp; just like everyone, we've gotta work. If you don't make a big deal out of ethnicity, it is unlikely to get in your way. But almost all of the nail salons here are owned %26amp; operated by Vietnamese %26amp; I think you could have a hard time finding employment in that industry on Oahu.

Did the nail technician mess up my nails on purpose?
i got my nails done a week ago and the acrylic looks like its coming off like when u put those press on nails on and they start coming off u can see the glue coming off underneath. it looks like that. he new i was irratated because i had to wait 45 min. ive had my nails done a million times and this has never happenedDid the nail technician mess up my nails on purpose?
By your description, it sounds to me like you went to a discount salon. These are the places that generally charge like $25 or less for a full set - no appointment needed, and a huge language barrier. These are usually the worst places to go to have your nails done for many reasons. I'm not going to sit here and list them all, but let me tell you that they are usually untrained, unskilled, and often unlicensed as well. They are the ones who will most often ruin your natural nails by overfiling them with a Dremel drill and a sanding band. These are NOT for use on nails. They were designed for use in woodworking and other hobbies. In fact, a few states, including Texas have outlawed this type of drill for use on nails because it is harmful to them. Avoid these types of salons. Make an appointment at a reputable salon with an experienced, and highly skilled nail tech and you will not have any of these problems, ever. Also, you won't have to wait for any length of time because you have an appointment, and good nail techs pride themselves on being on time with clients of theirs. I know that I always do...Did the nail technician mess up my nails on purpose?

I'm an ex nail technician and was self employed for 4 yrs renting space in salons......
I'm in Australia so i had a look at some websites of Nail Salons in the UK and you can make around 50/60 pounds for Full Sets and around 25/30 pounds for refills. The salons are changing between 25 to 30 pounds just for a french manicure!
You can easily charge 35 pounds for refills.
If you only need one client to cover each day then go for it....... Just plan how you're going to advertise and use the existing clientele in the salon to pick up business.
Make sure you have a written contract to protect yourself and that stipulates the exact amount of rent you'll be paying and the time frame that that rate stands for.
Coming from experience, people seem to change rules and conditions when they realise how much money you're making so make sure you're covered so they can't just up the rent on you when you start getting busy and making a good income.
Definitely go for it, you will learn a lot from the experience.
My moto now having had so much experience with running a business is ';Nothing Personal, Strictly Business';. Rememeber that, it will help you think more business like.

This might be of help to you, or it might not ... but I am just 'recovering' from a similar opportunity but it was a kitchen in a pub and this is what I've learnt ... make sure the staff are friendly and treat all customers with respect, make sure there are no immediate plans to sell the salon because it will affect you and do some sort of advertising before you start, it is an expense I'm sure you could do without but it will be worth it in the long run. Go for it and good luck!!!

There is so much book work when taking cosmotology you wont believe it! Hours a day each day is working and reading in the lessons, for a few months, and then you have to pass the book exam and the observations of you performing things during your exam too, so study good, its not as easy as it looks, but it is easy and alot of fun. I took it but quit, I have no natural talent for fashion at all, but I did love going to that school and it was free in high school for me!!

NO matter how smart someone is, the lil box on applications means something, although lots of stupid people graduate right!!!
There is so much book work when taking cosmotology you wont believe it! Hours a day each day is working and reading in the lessons, for a few months, and then you have to pass the book exam and the observations of you performing things during your exam too, so study good, its not as easy as it looks, but it is easy and alot of fun. I took it but quit, I have no natural talent for fashion at all, but I did love going to that school and it was free in high school for me!!

if you did a proper course as a nail tech you should of been advised all of this. I did a hair and beauty course a while ago and althought i didn't complete it the first thing we were taugh was when not to do a procedure on a client. Contra-indications!!!!!! there's aload of them.What damage could you as a nail technician do if you didnt understand anatomy on the hands and feet?
You could stain the color of someone's nails...pemanently (it's not that hard to do..I almost did it once myself). Or screw up the orthopedics of someones hands (ie. by using specific nail shapes/sizes that just never work). The infection thing is also true.
Apart from that though, you'd just be a bad nail technician.

Phone up your local colleges and ask for a prospectus and see if they do a beauty or nail course. Most of the colleges should do an adult learners course in the evening, if you work full time. You should get a qualification for these courses, but check with your local college and see.

Certified nail technicians are licensed to provide manicures, pedicures, coloring, and extensions. With all the advances in artificial nail products and the chemistry of nails that are needed. You do need to attend to some kind of college or Prep School for that specific career, depending on the college it can take a minimum of six months or up to 1-2 years. To get the nail technician certification you usually need a certain amount of hours on the job without a pay- the hours depend on the state that you are living in. I do believe that there are courses that you can take online for that career.

I completed a two day intensive nail technician course at Olivia Rogers Nail Academy in Bangor which is just around the corner from the bus and train station.
The tutors are fantastic would highly recommend, when successfully completed you receive diploma cost 拢350 well worth it.

No, Getting fake nails don't hurt. But if you want to keep your nails healthy, Don't get Acrylic or Gel.

First of all start with your family and friends. Then get a place to begin to do the nails, of course there will be expansion when all of the $$$ starts rolling in. Place advertisements in the local newspapers. If you are near a college campus, purchase an ad, it may even be cheaper. Pass out business cards. There are free ones on certain websites. Depending on the size of the city you live in, you may want to pass out flyers--not mail them, this is another word for junk mail. All of this is low to no cost.hand soap eye

Well, you see it really depends where you live, and where the shop is located. I know that personally that it varies in cities and states. If you are going to the typical asian nail and hair salons, usually the right tips that they should receive would be from five to ten dollars. Depending on who you are, if you are a daily customer, they would tip their person a little more. On the other hand if you are going to a spa salon owned by a company, or Caucasian people, you would tip them a bit, or a lot more. I personally know a bit more because I have family members that works at nail and hair salons. I hope that I helped you!

Depends on the school...All cosmetology schools are different, with different prices...But it won't be cheap....Find a School you are intreseted in, and find out how much the school is...and make sure it's accredited, or else they won't take financial aid.

Check at your community college first. Since you have a child, you should be able to get finanical aid. If your community college doesn't offer it, then look into private vocational schools. The prices will vary by school.

What did this nail technician do?
I saw a nail technician who buffed my nails, which were a bit yellow. They were instantly white. She then put an oil on. Even after using nail polish and polish remover the sheen from the oil remained. My questions are: are there different types of buffers? If so which one did she likely use? Will it weaken my nails in the long term? Would the sheen from the oil last without buffing? Are there different types of oils? Which did she likely use? How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?
Every couple of weeks I go to the nail salon and have a pedicure and have either a refill or a new set of nails put on (I use pearl tips and pearl refills are horrible so once a month I remove my set and have a new one put on). I always ask for the same technician as she really does a great job. My bill comes to around $50 and I leave a 20% tip. I always pay by credit card and add the tip. I always put the technician's name at the top of the CC receipt so that the owner knows who the tip belongs to. I know that she will have to pay taxes on the tip, but that's only fair (I have to pay taxes on my salary and bonuses). My concern is that she won't get her tip. Can someone please tell me how this works? How can I be sure she's getting what's hers? I have been tempted to ask her, but I think that is really crass.How can I be certain that my nail technician gets the tip I leave her?

Unfortunately, a two day course will not prepare you to be a nail technician. The actual requirements vary from state to state, but most states require several hundred hours worth of training before you can qualify to take the state boards, and become licensed as a nail professional. Generally, you can complete a nail education program in about six months.
But if you want to do nails for a living, don't let that fact discourage you in the least bit! Here is a link to a website with detailed information regarding education, and license requirements for each state:

Also, I found this site to be somewhat helpful for locating a nail program in your area. It will give you the names, addresses, and phone numbers of different schools in your area, but not much else. But it is a good place to start!

Don't forget, the hours you work are going to be when most women have the time available to get their nails done. This means weekends, nights, and some holidays too. It is not a Monday-Friday, 9-5 job. I mean, it could be if thats what you want. But if you want to go anywhere in this field, you have to work at the convenience of your clients, and not yours.
But even with all that, I personally wouldn't give up my job in the nail industry for anything else. And many other techs also feel the same way about it.

Very important. There are pressure points in the feet, hands and wrists that could lead to extended numbing or paralysis if pressed upon in the wrong way or for extended periods of time. You also need to know a great deal about where and how the blood vessels function in the hand and foot areas where skin is very delicate and vascular. It'll give you an insight into many aspects in the beauty industry and you can specialise in more than one subject (like hair and nails or nails and make-up) which will make you more employable.

I'm doing aesthetics program and I really like it. I was thinking about nail tech too but I think this field is a little more diverse. You move to different parts of the body: Hand %26amp; feet with reflexology, face for facials, legs arms and eyebrows for waxing. Aesthetics really give people time to relax and leave there problems at the door. I would try it first andafter you finish that program and you still feel a passion for nail tech, go for it. alot of salon and spas like diverse practicioners. That's more money for you. Plus cosmotolegy doesn't go into enough detail as the exactual program does. They just lightly skim those areas even though legally they can preform nail tech and esthetician acts. What is it that YOU want to do? Do you want to do nails, Acrylic, Gel, Manicuring, Pedicuring? Or do you want to do Facials, waxing, and make up? You can earn as much money in either career, But if you choose one that you end up really not liking, It'll pretty much suck for you, 'cause your stuck with that unless you want to dish out the money for a Esthetics course.
Why don't you just do Cosmetology? Yeah, It involves hair, But after you graduate school, You don't even have to do hair. You can do Nails and Skin. You may even find that you enjoy doing hair..
