What type of qualification do i need to become a nail technician?
Is there one qualification that all nail technicians need to have. If not, what type of qualification should i be looking to get. Also, does anyone have any other tips regarding becoming a nail technician?.What type of qualification do i need to become a nail technician?
Every state has their own rules and training requirements. So first; find out what they are. Then try experimenting on yourself and then friends until you find the right products for you and until you know you have a knack for it. Its an art , not a science so if you are not artistic it might not be for you. I used to teach people to do nails and I had one woman that was so bad she polished the nail and it was on the skin...almost up to her knuckles. She knew it wasn't for her and I knew it too. I gave her money back and told her to find some other career.
So practice practice practice..that is if you have the talent for it. What type of qualification do i need to become a nail technician?
You must go to a trade school and get liscensed to do nails.
Instead of cutting the nails, visit Home Depot and get some small steel files used for filing metal. These little files will cut right throught hard toenails like hot butter. This way you do not have the risk of cutting someone.
When you get your liscense, go to your local home health care company and tell them you want to visit the elderly at home to do their toenails for $50 each patient.
If you want to succeed, find something to do for money that no one wants to do. Then do it very well and charge plenty to do it.
No one wants to cut elderly people's toenails, not even family members. Explain to the family that with the high cost of gasoline etc you will have to charge them $50 to do it at home. Mention that the charge to have a car door opened when you lock your keys in is $50 and they don't really do anything. IF they come at night they charge $75.
The trick is finding the customers. If you can solve this, keep it a secret. Then you can hire other liscensed nail technicians to work for you while you locate the customers and run the business.hand soap eye

I can't speak for other states, but here in California, it's kinda tough competing with the cheap Vietnamese salons. I offer high quality services with good sanitation practices, but a lot of people prefer fast n cheap services instead :( The economy situation isn't helping either. I'd stay away from renting for a while and try to go into a Spa.

Check out vocational technical centers, they're cheaper and people can learn to do hair, nails and other trades. Since the price you gave is in pounds, I'm not sure if they have anything like that in the UK though.....

It seems like alot but you may qualify for financial aid (such as a pell grant) or a student loan( most do not make start paying on them until six months after you graduate- so you can get a clientele and be well established). Call them to set up a no obligation appointment. They will lay out all your options and will be happy to answer all of your questions. BEST OF LUCK!!!

I have no experience in that area, but with any business you need to check out the local competition and look at their services and costs. Then you price your service competitively. Your charges need to be around the same as others, slightly cheaper if you can, but don't undercut them too much or people will be wary. Have introductory special offers and discount cards for repeat custom.
No-one can tell you how much you'll make because we don't know what your overheads are.

Some countries don't require you to have a license. I'd call your local cosmetology school and check.
You should get some professional training either way. Being a nail technician isn't just about doing nails. You have to know about diseases, treatments towards certain nail conditions, and proper disinfection.
If you practice without training and you cause someone to get a bacterial infection on their nail, they could sue you. If you receive proper training, not only will you decrease the chances of that happening, but you'll also be able to get insurance.
Also, if you don't have anything to prove that you are trained, you won't be able to get many high quality professional products (CND, Calgel, etc). I am.... In california the schooling takes about 4 months-full time! price wise.... the kit, at my school was $500 (in retrospect, i would make it myself to save money and get quality products)... and the tuition was free, BOGW paid for it
